Any details about the hunt?
Bow used? BH used?
Ok, well, here goes...
I was hunting in one of my "c" stands as I am trying not to contaminate the "a" and "b" stands with to much traffic prior to the rut.
I had a camera up in the area for a little over a month and a half with 917 pictures and not a single buck over a year and a half old.
I was sitting at four, a spike buck started working his way toward me around five, licking and rubbing, taking his time, going about his daily routine. He stopped broadside about 5 yds from the bottom of my ladder. I didn't take him because I had intent of shooting a nice doe for steaks, roasts and chops.
Well a doe did not show, but exactly 2 hrs 10 mins later I heard some movement and seen the tines of a monster rack slowly moving toward me, walking the same trail and licking and rubbing just like the spiker.
It didn't take long and that gigantic buck was 5 yrds from the bottom of my ladder, I placed the crosshair of my Tact - Zone high on his shoulder and sent my
Excalibur Diablo with Boltcutter toward him, he was gone in a flash...
I listened closely and heard him crash.
My niece is getting married in the spring and moving to the Ottawa area so I called her for one last retrieval with her favorite uncle. I met up with her and we were shortly back at the base of the stand. We found him quickly as he only got about 60 yds away.
It was pouring rain all weekend so I was unableto get any real nice pics so please accept my appologies.
The rest is history....
Hey, you have to be lucky to be good right?
