What's the best serving nowadays?

Post by Pa.hunter »

Hey everyone a quick question on serving. I use to serve my own bow strings years ago. I still have my serving tool and want to reserve my 380 and 330 strings. I know they have a lot of new materials and thickness out now and wonder what's the best to use on my crossbow :?: I have a couple of the factory Matrix strings I want to do.

Thanks for any help Charlie

I have the unpopular answer.
Tried Halo, gave it away, I kept breaking that stuff trying to get it as tight as I want, Angle Majesty is over rated in my book. Don't like it, and it is the stock stuff on the strings that come on the Matrix strings, we have all heard of the issues! I like Brownell, and BCY crossbow serving material, and Brownell RCT in .036" Wish they offered more colors, but so far black only. That stuff bites down hard, and never slips! It grabs on in the back serve so well, you have to lube it up, or it will be a tough to pull it home.

My opinion, and preference.

Nothing comes close to 0.035" Angel Majesty. Halo in 0.030" is good if you can put it on tight enough. Angel Majesty in 0.026" is good but not nearly as good as good as 0.035" Angel Majesty. BYC and Brownell crossbow serving is serviceable and cheap.
Dan, you couldn't have been using 0.030" because it will break a Cavalier serving tool most times before it will break coming off the spool.

Pulling the tag end of the back serve with needle nose, snapped that Halo 4 times in row, I don't get that with the Xbow serving.

So what makes it so great? Why are people having so much serving separation with this on Matrix strings? And is it not serviceable?

There's nothing with factory string servings, it's factory triggers that cause the serving problems.....

Wes, the other causative issue was that they weren't putting enough twists in the strings that were on the new bows. I've asked them to increase the twists, which they have but I think they need a few more.
Dan, Angel Majesty stays round, so it actually digs into the string unlike other servings. It also has the elasticity that is needed. It is also very abrasion proof.
With decent claws I have people like Ironnoggin logging over 1,000 shots on my strings.

I'm going to try the larger diameter stuff, hopefully Danny can sell some to me. I'm getting good results with the other materials, but willing to try this in .035"
