Got to see Shannon this morning, while he was in ICU visits were restricted to family only so today was the first time I've got to actually visit with him. He's doing much better, he was pretty talkative and in good spirits. All his wounds are still open and they have to repack them periodically so he's still in a lot of pain but he's getting better, and they started him on small amounts of solid food today. I got to hear straight from him what happened, and to be honest I'm amazed he's alive to tell it. Now he's a pretty robust fellow but I think in this case his size probably saved his life. He was coming up a hill on his four-wheeler, so he was sitting down and leaning forward when the pistol fell out of his holster and fired. The bullet hit him in the front of his right calf at an upward angle, exited the back of his calf, re-entered the back of his thigh behind his knee, travelled up through his thigh and exited the inside top of his thigh near the groin, and re-entered his lower abdomen and went through him at an angle, stopping just below his heart. I don't know how else to say it but he's very lucky to be alive. But thank the good Lord he's getting better each day, he was even joking about being able to brag about shooting the biggest thing that's ever been taken on our club. Our bow season opens in two weeks so he knows he that's a wash but he says his goal is to be back in the woods for the rifle opener in late November. I believe he'll be there.

Thank God he survived the ordeal, and can joke about it some. Guns are very powerful weapons, and he really got a second lease on life based on the path you described of the bullet.

Seriously though. Psheew, lucky guy to have survived for sure.
Modern medicine for all its failings does do some life and quality of life saving work at times.. Some divine intervention helps too.

....John, really continued great news "especially" in light of how you described his mishap. For all intents and purposes he should not be here but for the Grace of God and fervent prayers for healing. The Lord truly is the Master doctor and surgeon able to confound man and heal where healing seems impossible....

All the Glory to Jesus in this miraculous recovery.

Keg, glad to hear Shannon is doing a lot better it sounds like he is one tough man and the Lord with all these prayers has got him through some hard times so far. I will keep him in my prayers also.
