Oklahoma Success

Post by retrieverman »

Oklahoma archery season opened on Wednesday (10-1), and I was able to be there for opening day. I have hunted for several years with an Exomax and killed about 30 deer with it, and I decided to "upgrade" this year to a Matrix 380. I really like the bow for the additional speed but mostly for the decrease in size and weight. Honestly, my Exomax was/is a great crossbow (I'm keeping it for a back up). I hunted one particular buck last year with no success, and he showed up on my game camera a few weeks ago so game on again. The weather has been hot and dry, and the deer are moving mostly at night especially the mature bucks. I have seen quite a few does and young bucks though. I always buy a turkey tag, but turkey only pass through our place infrequently. I got a surprise opening morning when two toms came strolling by. The 30 yard shot was perfect. He had a 10 inch beard and 1 inch spurs. I watched a lot of does waiting on "my" buck, but this morning I decided to put some meat in the ice chest. I shot an old 150 lb doe, and she fell within sight of my stand. So far, the new Matrix is measuring up nicely.

Nice looking doe and turkey. Congrats. I'm still trying to seal the deal on an archery turkey. I haven't been able to get it done with my compound bow and the turkey apparently know to stay away when I'm carrying my ExoMax. :)

That's a big old doe.
