Which lighted nock

Post by confederate »

I've never used a lighted nock and would like to try them. Can someone give me advice on what to buy. I'm shooting zombies.

I have both Lumenocs and Ignitors for my zombies and new 380 blackout. I've used the Lumenocs for several years and I'm really happy with them. I've installed the Ignitors and played around with them while sitting at my workbench. Haven't actually shot them yet but I think they will perform fine. IMO, the Lumenocs are a little easier to use, especially if you have a pair of Danny Miller arrow pliers to turn them off. I've found it difficult to turn the Ignitor off simply because I don't have much strenghth in my fingers to pull the LED switch on the Ignitor light switch. The Ignitors weigh 10 grains more than the Lumenocs. I think it will be a toss up either way. Both are good choices.

...I shoot the Nu-Fletch Archery Ignitors having switched over from the Lumenoks...they both have pros and cons in my opinion...

Lumenoks:

Pro:

-very reliable,
- 28 grains
- no gluing can be changed out,
-can change the battery,
- works great
-one piece design

Con:

- requires a pair of pliers (danny miller pliers) to extinguish,
- battery change out is cumbersome (IMO)
-never seen them on sale
-wire wraps around the part that lumenok could get damaged

Ignitors:

Pro:

- Very reliable
- 39 grain (might be considered a con by some)
- If using the paper bag (DIY) installation you don't need to glue insert
- the battery is the light stick which is easy to to change out,
- easy to extinguish- simply pull out the nock take out the light stick and pull up on the top part of the light (off) and replace in the insert and push nock back in.
- can purchase replacement light sticks
- Nu-Fletch archery runs sales and currently is running a sale on their multi paks thru 7/1

Con:

-39 g versus 28 for the Lumenoks,
- Mfg recommends gluing in the insert (see above for plastic bag insert method) therefore it would be permanent,
- comes in 3 parts- insert, lightstick and nock,
-concern over dropping light stick when removed for extinguishing (I found this unfounded.)

I have used both, both come in the .300 diameter flat nocks. I like both and would not hesitate in using either. I just now prefer the Ignitors as I have found them easier to use. I purchased 5-3pks in this latest sale...with delivery it was about 6.00 a nock....the lumenoks are about $9/each and I never see them on sale.

I hope this helps and it was meant to be unbiased.

Anthony :)

luminoks, simple ONE piece design! You DO NOT need pliers to turn them off but it does make it easier.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the Luminoks were .301 inside diameter for the zombies.....you know what I mean. Zombies are .301????

Anyway, I can only comment on the Luminoks and love them. I like that they can be removed and used in different arrows, I love that they're lighter than other lighted nocks and they light up like emergency flares! They are a pain in the cullo to turn off but the plier pullers make it quick easy and painless. Personally, I don't mind having the DM plier pullers in my pack and would definitely recommend the Luminoks.

I'm shooting BE Zombie Slayers in my Micro and picked up some Lumenoks a couple months ago. They work great. Just make sure you get the right size. Zombies are .300" inside. The Lumenoks that fit Goldtip shafts are the ones you want as they are for .300" shafts. Its Lumenok SKU GTFR. The last letter is for red. They also have green and yellow. I ordered red and when I received them they looked yellow. Upon firing them they are certainly red. I can see them fine in my target even during broad daylight.

At first I have to agree that they were a bit tight to extinguish. I bought a Bednar puller and never looked back. After five to ten shots of each I find that I can now turn them off rather easily by hand.

Anthony although I am a very strong dude  it is actually very simple. Grasp the arrow nock up in your hand (like you are holding a beer and going to pop off the top before there was twist off caps) and press sideways rotating the shaft a few times and repeat. Do not try and pull straight out. Easy peasy.

I am 65 years old with arthritis in my fingers and I can cut off my Luminocks with finger pressure only. I have never understood why some folks on here insist that you need pliers to do so.
