Binoculars
Does anybody have a suggestion for a decent set of binoculars that I can use for deer hunting. I lost my Vortex and need something affordable with good optics. I can't afford an expensive pair right now.
Re: Binoculars
About 15 years ago I went into a shop and told them my budget was $500 and that I wanted the best pair for that amount. He said for that amount the best pair were Bushnell Legends 8x42. Well I can tell you that they sure have not disappointed.
A few years back they were on the washer and vibrated off onto the floor. I sent them back to Bushnell for repairs. They charged me $70 and when I opened up the box it was a brand new pair of Bushnell Legend HD's.
All of my friends say how nice they are and can't believe that at the time I only spent $250 on them. They're about $280 now if I'm correct. Amazon has them for $185 with free shipping.
I highly recommend at the very least looking through a pair.

I checked out several at Dicks Sporting Goods, the had a Nikon set on sale for $130. they were as good as any high dollar ones I looked through.

Re: Binoculars
Check out Eagle Optics online they a huge selection of binoculars and always have great deals on good optics. Or if you are interested in used binocs I own about a dozen right now and might have what you are looking for at a good price. PM me with what size , power and price range you want.

Re: Binoculars
What model Steiner would you suggest?
Re: Binoculars
Any of them work really well so look at something within your budget.
I have 7X50 Military Marines and 10X50 Nighthunters. They are both too big to do everything. I think you'll be looking at the Predator series.

Back in '86 I paid $382 for a pair of Leica 6X40s. A lot of money at the time, but I'm still enjoying them almost 30 years later. Cry once . . .
I'm with Boo, for the $$, Steiners are very good, but bulky. If you don't mind the bulk, there are good quality surplus binoculars out there as well.

Re: Binoculars
The newer Steiners Predators are smaller than my 2. I don't use them if I'm doing a lot of walking, more so when I'm in a stand or blind. I think 2 prs is ideal. A set of minis is great when still hunting.Eck wrote:Back in '86 I paid $382 for a pair of Leica 6X40s. A lot of money at the time, but I'm still enjoying them almost 30 years later. Cry once . . .

Leicas are excellent. I have a pair of 10x50s with the ranger finder built in but there's no end to optics if one wants. My Leica Rangermasters (rangefinders) can easily double as a great monocular.
If I could only have one set, I'd pick my SwarovskI Minis. Not cheap but not crazy either.

Re: Binoculars
Look up Zen-Ray binos.....
I have the ED3 10x42 and they are as clear and bright as any $1,000 + bino, at half the price.
Or....search the bird watcher forums, those guys know their binos.

Re: Binoculars
Kowa 10x25 BD weigh only 9 ounces, and excellent glass, rubber coated waterproof binocs. work great in the woods; got mine for $200 from Eagle Optics. Also have plenty of eye relief if you wear glasses.
