My neighbours told me that they'd like to see the deer population drop around their place. They've got a combination of forest and clearing (better than mine with by far mostly forest) and are also right against the same open field as I am.
The woman's brother was apparently out grouse hunting today. I told her to tell him that he's quite welcome to wander my property and look for some. He's hunting by bow.
I guess he came back without her seeing him. I was sitting on the ground, just behind a small tree and some bushes, about 150 yds directly in front of their place on the edge of the field.
Suddenly I hear a "Whack!" and the sound of an arrow zooms overhead.
I yelled out pretty quickly! For some reason he decided to fire an arrow into the field. He of course didn't know I was there but it certainly scared the hell out of me!
Saw two does come out and graze tonight but no bucks.
Ever heard an arrow fly by you?

Pretty loud sound isn't it.
I was standing behind the house while my buddy was shooting from the side of the house into the backyard last summer. We both knew each other was there and we could talk around the corner of the house. I was well behind the house out of the line of sight from the target so there was no danger. We just wanted to know what it sounded like for a deer. It made a sound like a loud bee pushing air, I guess it was the fletching fluttering.
