Problems with broadhead target.

Post by kman35ca »

I bought the "Block" crossbow target to use my broadhead s on. First bolt I shot with a Muzzy Trocar and the tip is penetrated out the far side. I lubed the bolt but for the life of me I can't get it to budge. Also doesn't help that I used factory flat rear insert made of plastic. Do I need to get X cal rear inserts to use my t bar to pull the arrow? But in all honesty I think the insert would just pop out... A new target? Special lube for the shafts? Thanks, any replies will be appreciated.

The T bar is not worth having you will only pull out the insert at least that was my experience. good luck trying to get it out!

It's hard pulling arrows from broadhead targets. Period. Some are better than others but that's not to say easy to pull. Forget the t-handle style pullers. What you need are a pair of Danny Miller plier pullers. If you're in the U.S. contact Danny Miller at Horizontal Archery. If you're in Canada contact Don at Boocustomstrings.

How far out the back is the broad head protruding?

If it is sticking out enough, then what you could do is place a piece of wood ( think 2x4 ) on the ground, pick up the target and place the target face down so that the broad head is on the wood and then push down on the target as a whole, forcing the target back down on the shaft and exposing more of the back of the arrow... this might give you enough room to then be able to grab the back of the arrow and pull it out..

Also you could unscrew the broad head if is sticking out enough and still apply the above technique.

I totally agree with Paul about the Danny Miller pliers. I received mine last week. In a single word...."perfect!"
Arrows can be easily removed if all you have is the fletchings sticking out.

As Ed said, (grassyknoll) push it the rest of the way through. I use the T-Handle with no issues, but the Danny Miller puller gets rave reviews, must work pretty darn good! For broadhead shooting, i use the 18-1 and get mine out pretty easily.

Ya it's just the tip sticking out, but I will try that. Also sounds like getting a pair of them plyers would be Ideal. Also going to try wrapping a bunch of cardboard maybe 4' thick to slow it down so it won't be such a pita to get out. K thanks guys.

Cardboard unfortunately will not do anything for you except add frustration. You NEED the Custom Danny Miller arrow puller.

Boo in Ontario sells these units if you are interested.

You could remove the broadhead and place a block of wood in its place and give it a hammer tap to free up the melted Block material holding your arrow to ease removal.

Years ago we used wood with 2 pieces of rubber on each side inside with hinge on both pieces and it pulls arrows out nice...

Thanks gus, I'll be ordering a set of them pliers ASAP. And yup, now I know what I'm in for practising with broadheads. Lol. Man, I think before I try removal of this sob I'm gonna stick the target in my truck and crank the heat for an hour...K last question. What target have you guys found the absolute best for stopping and retrieving arrows? Rhinehart? As I'm figuring out this sport. Going cheap is definetly not the way to go...
