Hey guys,
I recently picked up an Arizona EZ fletch bolt jig and some 2'' blazer vanes. This is my first time messing with fletching a bolt myself so I just had a couple questions..
I noticed after placing my bolt into the rig until it rests on the nock receiver in the jig (Diablo 18'' bolts with flat inserts) that the placement of the vanes will end up about 1/2'' further up the shaft than the default vanes that came on the bolts. I guess my main question is how big of a deal is the placement of the vanes on the bolt itself? Will this 1/2'' difference make any noticeable difference (for better or for worse)? I think it's worth noting that the factory vanes are straight fletched while the jig puts a right helical on the vanes.
Secondly, how would you recommend cleaning/preparing shafts for fletching going forward? Things like excess glue, etc..
Thanks for any input.

Your fine, I do mine with the rear nock in, and wind up around 1.25" from the end, flight is great!

Like Dan said, your fine. What I do is cut a piece of pencil about 1/4" to 3/8" and drop it into the EZ Bolt Fletch pocket to set the vanes further back on the shaft.
The helical vane placement provided by the Bolt tool will stabilize broadheads better , especially at longer distances.
I use a semi dull razor blade to remove old glue and scuff the shaft with a medium grit sandpaper lightly for prep and next clean with acetone to finish. Never let any skin oils contaminate any glue surface for best results.

Thanks for the replies. Good to know! Just going to fletch my other practice arrows to match the first one I referenced. Measured it after Dan's reply and even though it's further up than the factory fletching, it did come out to 1.25'' so I'm not worried

Re: Bolt Vane Placement
I just made these up tonight using the bolt fletcher. I am getting the hang of it...
