Claw marks on serving

Post by aib1015 »

Just wondering if this is normal. The marks on my serving are off center. The bow shoots great and is very accurate, so it doesn't seem to affect shooting. Not really concerned about it, just curious. It's a 350le, if that matters. I should also mention that i checked and made sure all screws were tightened.

Your latches need to be polished. You can do it or pull the trigger out and send it back to be done.

Look towards bottom of this page for instructions:

Boo posted on this - off center claw marks are signature of a tiller variance between one limb and the other but as you noted this slight difference in the rigidity of one limb over the other won't really affect accuracy. Extend your range and use a large fixed head and you might see it's effect.

To verify tiller, measure from the string to the face of each limb at the same point, (on each side of the riser to the string is a good way).

I do agree that you should polish your latches.

Polishing the latches doesn't sound too difficult and I'll be sure to do that.

Measuring for tiller difference, it appears that the left side of the string is around a heavy 1/32 almost 1/16 closer to the limb than the right.
Is there a way of fixing this, is it a warranty issue or will it by chance even itself out over time?

I've had accurate shots with field tips out to 50 yards. I am shooting Rage Hypodermics right now, which fly just like my field tips (have shot them out to 40 and they're right on).
Shot some QAD Exodus, which hit to the left, and down at further than 20 yards. I posted about this before and some said their QAD's flew like field tips and someone had said they had similar results as I had, so I thought nothing of it.Could the tiller difference be the reason for their flight difference?

I would highly recommend using Angel Majesty .036 serving , It'll last much longer ! Check your tiller as suggested .

Lookin at yer pic, yer Riser/rail joint appears to be off some. You can loosen the screws n set it again. You can take yer string off the limbs back off all the screws n either pull out the limbs on both sides or push them in n tighten them all back up. Then ck yer Tiller n trigger claws

Took the limbs off and the riser off. Re-seated everything, tightened it all up, put the string back on and no change. Did it all again, thinking maybe I had something not fully seated correctly but same results, tiller is off about 1/16".
Both limbs are labeled "53", is it possible that one is mislabeled?
The riser/rail joint is off a hair but it is seated in the groove and will not adjust.
Is there anything else that could cause the tiller to be off?
Would this be something to send in and get looked at?
If that's the case, I think if my rage broadheads are flying good out to 40 then it's something that can wait until the end of the season.

I have a Vortex with a similar riser to rail joint. never had issues with it shooting and being accurate. I will follow up on what 8pt said...Angel Majesty serving will last the longest of anything, and a polish job on your latches will help as well. The reason everyone is saying that is because your serving is tearing at the latch marks. That should not be it should only be dented.
Tiller is fixed with new limbs and Excal will cover it. But as you note, it is not affecting accuracy at this point so I would hunt with it all season and fix later.

Tried switching limbs, no luck.
I believe I'll polish the latches and just go with it for the season.
After the season is over I may send it in and also considering a trigger tech upgrade in the off season.
Thanks for all the help

I'd get that serving fixed pretty soon. If 50 shots did that to it, you may not have many left before it totally gives it up and the claws are on the string.
