Re: Range Finders
I rarely use it for archery and almost always when using a firearm.

never use one for gun. All shots under 300 yards but always for archery

Re: Range Finders
The rangefinder sits in an easily accessible front chest pocket from late August to mid-December, regardless if I am afield with gun or bow.

Re: Range Finders
It is must with me in archery never use it in gun season..If i got another it would be one that has like a 5 power in it this way you do not have to carry binos with you ..Also small one is great so you can slip it in your front pocket my bushnell is too wide ..
get small one if you can..

Re: Range Finders
Not good at estimating distances so a range finder is a must for me. Always take it bowhunting and range distances around my stand.

Re: Range Finders
absolutely.. i think i am the only one in our group that does, and seemingly i hardly ever miss deer... lol.. to me we owe it to our game to make a clean ethical kill.. i have a practice i do.. when i range my area ( certain trees, stumps, etc) i first guess what the yardage will be... than i take my range with my finder.. it's a trick i do to try to teach my mind to learn distances by eye... but i always rely on my rangefinder, to me it is a must have...

Re: Range Finders
I always use mine during Archery season but rarely when gun hunting. It does stay in my pocket all all times when hunting just in case it is needed.

Check the Rangefinder reviews on Amazon, You Tube, etc. There is a vast array of Rangefinders out there. Narrow down the field in order to simplify the process.Wolfkrieg wrote:Any specific make/model recommendations? I need to pick

I am also looking to buy a rangefinder soon. From what I can tell the Vortex is excellent and a little more expensive than some of the Bushnells, Simmons, etc. I do like the Bushnell Scout with ARC.
First decide what you want to spend and what options you want. In addition if you want a Lifetime Warranty the cost will be higher. Personally I want a rangefinder with the ability to show true horizontal distance to the target regardless of the elevation, i.e. up in a tree stand, etc. I am looking to spend around $300.00 so will probably go with the Vortex.

I use a Lieca. Very bright and clear image. Whatever you get, data shown in you screen is easier seen if it is red and not gray.

I have an older Leica. They are bigger and bulkier, but are spot on and you can find for a bargain in ebay if you watch. Just a thought.Boo wrote:I use a Lieca. Very bright and clear image. Whatever you get, data shown in you screen is easier seen if it is red and not gray.
Re: Range Finders
I 2nd the Leica. I just got the 1600b, and it is the best I have ever used. Only thing comparable is a Swarovski my buddy has. I bought a Vortex Ranger 1500 prior, used if for about 2 weeks, then took it back. It is a nice unit, but has blue tinted lens coating that didn't do anything for me. It also failed to pick up deer at 300yds, which its supposed to do deer sized to 750yd. The Leica is on sale right now at Cabelas for $300 off reg price.
