FLEMISH STRING CONSTRUCTION
Went on line and watched how "Flemish" bow strings are made. They were using a "tapered" twist to blend in the tails of string. Why do x-bow string makers leave them in one piece and not tapered in? I am assuming it is for strength do to much shorter string length. Just wondering.
Re: FLEMISH STRING CONSTRUCTION
I don't know if any extra strength comes from leaving the tag ends at full bundle count, or tapering off matter that much, I think it really is more for the uniform look.

The Tapered style is cosmetic n tickles some ppl's fancy. Havin to cut material n work off a string board is time consumin n most likely brings in abit more money than i would shuck out. Now i certainly would run my string price up to build those. That would put me into niche n not many Customers. There maybe someone who will make them, i jus have too many things to get done Home Steadin on a daily basic

I leave about 1/2 to 5/8 tag ends for two reasons, First they look cool Next it provides a little insurance if someone makes a mistake and twist it the wrong way adjusting the brace height.

Re: FLEMISH STRING CONSTRUCTION
I've tried it on a string or two just messin' around. Like Mike said, it's pretty time consuming and doesn't really buy you anything.

Re: FLEMISH STRING CONSTRUCTION
Keith, you don't have to make a tapered bundle. You can clip a few strands at each twist as you get close to the end. It's really not that much effort but I'd rather have the strength of a full bundle braid.

Boo,
Yeah I got you. I also mess around with making trad bow strings for my own recurves and I have a jig that adds the taper in, so I did that. It's fine on my 50# recurve but I agree....I want the full strand count all the way out for my crossbow.
