Over on Crossbow Talk, a highly credential'd poster (tournament winner, 3x) stated that " the M405 was the was the worst Xbow" he'd ever shot. That's a strong statement. Obviously, he'd never shot a Barnet Wildcat 2 from the mid-80s. That's interesting. Although I only own a M405 I have shot at one buck and killed one buck. I stated that when equipped with various mods, it can become very user friendly while maintaining outstanding performance. His response was that he only evaluates crossbows as they come. I didn't pursue it as further discussion would be counterproductive.
Back to Excals, I appreciate that the xbows can come barebones allowing me to modify to my own taste. FWIW, I've found the revised limb mounting on the BD400 causes it to be much gentler, and maybe quieter, than the M380 when they are similarly equipped, even though the M380 is 5'/sec slower.
Back to the M405 critic, some people just have a critical bent.
PS I applaud Excalibur for making the Supressor. It was quiet! Still, the rubber piece near the end of the limb flew off on first shot. I'll bet it's positioning is very critical. Some people want their Xbow all modded from the beginning, others don't. Excalibur gives the buyer a choice.
It's all about supply and demand, and what the market will bear! Especially true when it comes to sports and recreation. I guess I'm revealing my age when I say, I'm old enough to remember when they sold for a small fraction of the price. A few hundred bucks would get you top-shelf bows, rifles, and optics/scopes. The same today costing in the thousands. Remembering those long past days, I find it harder with each passing year to justify their current inflated prices.
