Post by ihunt »

Been doing a lot of reseach on Permethrin in Canada and found this a Petition to allow it into Canada. Mind you it's dated last year but they need a miniumn of signatures so if you like please read and sign and tell all your friends to sign too. Gotta get this ball going! Please.

Lots of ticks in SW AB. Took a good doz off me last spring. I used permethrin treated clothing (sprayed it on myself) for many years in the military when deployed to Africa/SW Asia. Also used it to disinfest airplanes. The military has an exemption for this stuff.

My local tackle shop carries permethrin.
You can also find this product in pet supply stores.
Just look for a flea spray.

If anyone knows a pet brand with permethrin, please post. It's gettin a little buggy here in B.C. Found 8 tics on the dogs and I last weekend. And yup, signed the petition.
Hank
Edit; Found some pet spray. It's called Zodiac pet spray. 20% permethrin in a 475 ml. Bottle. $20.99. Should this concentration be diluted for clothes? Thanks

Apparently Amazon Dot CA did not get the message about Canada Hank.
A Buddy out here in BC just ordered & received this:

https://www.amazon.ca/Scientific-Angler ... permethrin

That one is for people obviously, but a quick search of Amazon.ca may find listings for pets too...

Dunno if you want to go that particular route though. Most vets carry stuff that is good for fleas, ticks etc and is likely just as effective and may be less expensive...

Hope that helps!

And I too signed the petition, a few months ago now...

Cheers,
Nog

Zodiac Premise Plus flea spray is the one I use.
Clothing only.....................permethrin is not to be used as a topical application.................clothing only, do not apply directly to your skin.

This product has a residual action and no need to reapply until the clothing is washed.

Hank...........spray it on full strength and let dry.

Thank you. Wasn't sure, and when it comes to nasty chemicals, safe is much better than sorry.

When I used the flea spray with permithrin.................I used it on pants and coat. One application for the season.

Just today I found another product that you all may be interested in.
PiACTIVE
Is the brand name.
The main ingredient is ICARIDIN
This a topical repellent for mosquitos, ticks and black flies.
Safe for children 6 +months of age.
It's a non DEET product which works for 10 to 12 hours on one application.
Approved by the World Health Organization and registered by HEALTH CANADA.

I found it at Giant Tiger of all places.
9 dollars for a 175 ml. pump spray bottle.
None irritating to skin and Won't damage plastic or synthetic materials.

This will replace the flea spray and DEET products for me.
Will be testing it out fishing the marshes of Rondeau Bay very shortly.

Permethrin is not a nasty chemical. Comes from flowers but it is a strong irritant. The flea sprays have other chemicals added that are not so nice.
