Re: Bolt question
Welcome back..
I like a 16" very stiff arrow like a Zombie SLayer or a GT Nitro...especially for hogs. I
f you go with the Nitro's you will need to get some extra weights for the front end. Their brass inserts bare only around 65gr if I remember.
ZS wll be a bit simpler. I'd go 16" ZS, 110gr brass insert and a 150gr fixed head for hogs. Put 2" blazers on the back end and a NuFletch Igniter and you'd be set I think. Put you around 460ge total, which shoudl do well on even a big boar.

Re: Bolt question
Welcome back. If you take a look near the top of the page there's a sticky of forum members arrow setup with their bows. That'll show a lot. Personally, I like the 16' zombies or executioner arrows with 92gr or 110gr brass inserts, 100gr or 125gr points, plastic nocks and 2" blazers fletched with the Arizona Rim E-Z Fletch Bolt.

.... I shoot the 335..everything as Paulaboutform said including the "sticky" for everyone's setups...I use the 92 grain insert and on those ZS I either use the Firenocks or the Lumenoks back in the "lighthouse!"

Here is what I am looking at
Executioners 16" 144 grain
alum nock 14 grain
fletching 2" 18 grain
insert 110 grain
Broadhead 125 grain
total weight 411 grain
Should this put me in the ballpark

Re: Bolt question
If you insist on using aluminum nocks I strongly recommend using a fine grit painter's sanding sponge to break the edge of the nock them polishing them using a buffing wheel and dremel tool with jewellers rouge. Also, do not epoxy your aluminum nocks in the shafts. Use a low temperature archer's glue stick (just a tiny amount). Keeping the nocks perfectly smooth is paramount in avoiding your serving getting cut. Using the glue stick will allow you to screw a field point into your aluminum nocks and remove damaged ones with minimal heat and not compromise your shafts. *it's much easier to just use the plastic flat nocks though.kd8jgu wrote:Here is what I am looking at

looking at weight of alum nock and the plastic
6 grains difference will try both when I test to see if there is that much of a difference

Re: Bolt question
Al or plastic nocks will not make any noticeable flight differences given your high FOC.....which is good. You can glue something like a set screw into the inside of a plastic nock to increase weight if you want. But 8 grains one way or another won't make a difference in the terminal performance of that setup. I'd say you are good to go....but with the caveat to not shoot a big boar hog in the shield. I'd think that might be iffy ay only 400gr. Butu 200lbs and under and I think you will be fine

Re: Bolt question
I have been shooting both bolts and my compound bow with weights of 408 and 416 grain with out problems
My traditional arrows weigh 496 grain if hog is under 200 and within 25 yards I will fling out side of that they get to walk
I do everything I can do to not hit shield it tends to just p#$$ them off
