Is baiting deer in Ontario legal???

Post by ecoaster »

I can't find any info in the regulations to say that it is illegal, so I'm assuming that it is okay.

Anyone ever run into a problem from MNR or Conservation Autorities when baiting deer?

Baiting deer is no more illegal than hunting deer in corn fields, alfalfa fields, apple orchards, acorn stands, bedding areas, scrape lines, etc....you get my drift.

The only thing you cannot bait in Ont...is migratory birds....deer, go for it...we sell tonnes of feed every fall to the local hunters. :D

The above statement is only partly correct. You would have to add TURKEYS in with migratory birds which cannot be baited.

That would be MIGRATORY BIRDS AND TURKEYS CAN'T BE HUNTED OVER A BAITED AREA, everything else is ok.

You can bait migratory birds all you want but must stop 2 weeks before the season opens in Ontario i believe.
