Can you cut down 22" bolts to 18" with vanes still on?

Post by ohioexocetfan »

Like the title says... I've got some 22" arrows (new, never used) for my
Exocet and I want to use them on my new Matrix. Can I have an arrow
shop cut them (perfectly) w/ the 2" vanes still on there, or does
the shaft have to be blank to be cut correctly? Thanks! Jeff

They can cut them with the veins on,or you can get one of these and never depend on a pro shop again, works great their are many users of this saw on the forum if you do a search of arrow cutting saw.

Thanks for the link... I've shot a lot of arrows but never built any. Isn't cutting them PERFECTLY square a huge deal? Also once they are cut, do you have to do something to the cut end so the carbon doesn't unravel? (like of like when you cut a rope and you burn the ends)

Nope, and yep. Cutoff grinding type wheel, very thin. Rotate arrows while cutting with the blade depth set barely deep enough to go through wall thickness. Then use a square tool. That will finish your ends perfectly.

I cut down some Cabelas Carbon Hunter bolts from 20” to 18”. Knocked out the inserts first to reuse. No issues whatsoever cutting them down.
BTW. These are some great bolts and on sale now for $25/6
