The perfect crossbow scope reticle

I'm on a constant hunt for a better crossbow scope. I think I found what I'm looking for.

The reticle is un-cluttered. No chevrons, half moons, circles,yard markers, small crosses, or multiple lines.

Leupold VXR 2-7x33 LRV(long range varmint)

The only issue is they have been discontinued so finding one may be an issue... lol

I think most crossbow scope designers need to ask the users what we want to see.

Scope has been discontinued and none available per a Google search. Good luck with your search....

I'm sure its probably available a few places because some folks have items on the shelves for years.

I thought the same thing about 3 years ago and bought one. MISTAKE!!!! The reticle does not look like the pic on the web or the pic on the end of the Leupold box. The dots are set for a flat shooting rifle. 2 min. apart at most. Worthless on a crossbow . I disliked the clutter so much I sent it back to Leupold and spent big bucks out of my pocket to have it changed to another illuminated reticle.

The dots are CLOSE together. You could zero at 20-23-27 maybe.

Save your money!!!!! I promise these are no bueno for a crossbow.

There is a disclaimer on their website that says something like images may not be exactly as pictured. They aren't kidding!!!

The pic you have shown looks just like an illuminated Crossbones. That is not what the reticle looks like. You will be disappointed!!!

I wanted a target turret on my scope as well, so I had planned to send it back to Leupold for this anyway. After I got the scope, I was just sick!!! because it was so worthless! So I decided to have illuminated reticle changed as well, and have parallax reset. I wound up with MAJOR dollars in it, so that it was usable. Save yo money!!! Patience Grasshopper!

Even though Leupold is hands down my favorite scope optic that my wallet can afford on occasion , I don't like the way they advertise or depict their reticles. Leupold really does not show you the entire reticle, only the center part.

I did discuss this with a Leupold rep and I doubt they will change that.

To me, the lighted Firedot Reticle on any VXR scope will make me smile everytime I shoot the VX-R.

If one day I can afford it, the Leupold VX-6 with the Ballistic Firedot reticle is my most desirable crossbow scope. One day I hope

Was good while it lasted.

I still think a regular 2-7 or 3-9 VXR/Optimizer is currently optimal when price is a factor.

After years of using the Optimizer, it's usage has become 2nd nature. With a little practice, shooting when the deer is up to 10 yards off the setting can be easily done. This is rarely needed but still can happen.

Unfortunately, I've not found a dedicated xbow (multiple range marks) with a simple reticle, lighted, and higher level glass. Even great scope companies like Leupold and Zeiss couldn't get it all together. Zeiss came closest but the range marks go away in lower light.

The average xbow, with the exception of all the cheap, box store xbows, costs more than the average rifle and gets repeatedly replaced by many. Yet, the optics available are of a lesser optical quality for Xbows.

My answer: Optimizer.

For what it's worth... I can see my Leupold heavy duplex crosshairs until it's WAY to dark to shoot.

I picked up the Micro 335 a few years ago and it came with a Octane scope as the standard package. This scope I had no propblem with until last year when my eyes started to play a factor using it that age thing. I listen to a lot of good recommendations on this site about scopes. I ended up getting a Hawke XB PRO 30 SR and love this scope. I have taken Deer in low lite conditions and occasionally I use the illumination feature on it. I shopped around and got a good deal on it.
