What broadhead are you using

Post by Carnivorous »

Now for some hunting related talk! Lol

I flung some arrows with broad-heads this weekend to get prepared for Bear.

First made sure I was dialed in with my field trip points.

Set up my burlap bag stuffed with rags.

First up 100gr Grim reaper pro 2" cut whitetail special mechanical.
First shot flew the same as my fp out to 20.
Second shot with same head almost missed the target. Sounded like one blade deployed early and upon inspection the blades bent after 2 shots in to burlap. Garbage!

Pulled out the tried and true QAD Exodus 125gr heads.
Same POI as my field points out to 50 yards with a solid rest and amazing penetration. Through the burlap and half way in to my target back stop. The blades are still razor sharp after multiple shots.

That takes care of the broadhead test. If I can't test and shoot with a head multiple times I won't use it!!

The éxodus head isn't a wide cut at 1.25" but if I place my arrow where it needs to go I'm 100% confident it will end well.. :)
A touch of frost has heightened your awareness and your heart steadily beats in anticipation. Your senses are suddenly alert to the movement on the forest floor and you realize that the moment of truth is at hand.

Ramcat 125 for me Jeff . Have tried them to 50 yards with excellent results with Zombie slayers and 110 grain front insert . QAD Exodus would be another I would choose.

Still using the 125 Ramcts as well. I wish the blades were thicker, but they fly so well and really make a nice hole. Plus I got a bunch on sale at Cabelas . Did a great job on my Quebec bear as well. In fact so well that it went through the bear and completely buried in a tree. QAD Exodus is on my list to try.

The qad exodus is super tough and accurate for sure. I also love the entire slick trick lineup. The spitfires are fantastic for mechanicals. All that being said, nothing has performed for me as well as the toxic broadheads. Period. Now, all my bows are heavy hitters so they plow through whatever I shoot at. I mention this because the qad and slicks far out-penetrate the toxics. I have found this on targets but have blasted through all game shot with toxics. Toxic bloodtrails and recovery distances have been shorter than any other broadheads I've used.

Never heard of the Qad Exodus, but they look like a good, strong broad head design. Nice thing about the Slick Tricks is they’re 4-blade cutters.

In recent years I converted from mechanical to fixed. Last year I tried an over-sized two-blade, single-bevel cut-on-contact head. It’s made by Centaur Archery and called the Battle Axe. I even got a pass-through on a deer lengthwise!
