My old friend down the road
I made friends with an old fellow down the road ,Al l always snow blow his driveway and check on him even though he is self sufficient. His eyes and balance are failing him and it seems he was a more avid hunter and fisherman than even me in his day. He keeps giving me reloading equipment and guns every time i visit him ... lts really sad. His advice is to go hunting and fishing as much as l can....l like that. But l think of him a lot in stand. I know even though im buisy because of hunting all day im gonna go over his house tonight because hes gonna want to hear about my day. I really love old people l really wish l knew him when he was younger. I guess im gonna be Al one day if l live that long and sadly give my stuff away. Very sad....

Thanks for that. A good reminder, especially at my age

Very Nice Joe, I am trying to subscribe to the idea of living every day as if it could be your last. You just never know.

That’s very nice of you to think of him
If you harvest a deer stop by and give him look at it...would probably make his day

joe,
the owner of the 40 next to mine is 93. i call him sir so he doesn't kick my butt. checking to see if he made it back to camp at night is usually the highlight of my season. doesn't talk much about exploits but i have pieced together over the years that he was a ww2 frogman/infiltrator who was issued a .22 which is kind of chilling if u think about it. the most insightful story that I have about him is from last fall. he was widening his camp road with a chainsaw, sat down on a downed tree & it rolled over on him. he dug his foot out with a stick while laying on his stomach. skin was keeping it attached. 1 arm was busted. crawled to his wheeler, got to his truck, got in & drove to hospital. luckily the gate was open. this took him all day as he kept passing out. when i went to visit him at the nursing home i found him in the hallway sweet talking a bevy of 80 yr old women. he got out about 3 weeks ahead of schedule. next time i saw him at camp i asked if he was going to shoot thru the window this year. nope. he drove wheeler to blind with a walking boot. he shot an 8 with his ML in december. makes me think i should buy a camo dress for hunting!

I currently have 2 student pilots I’m teaching: ages 50 and 88. Both doing well. The 88 year old has 5 motorcycles. Often takes trips to Washington (state) from Arkansas on his motorcycle.
