In my opinion wood arrows would be unsafe and ill advised.

I used to shoot wood arrows on my longbow and recurve but I think a modern crossbow has just too much power and acceleration to be safe with them. I’d be afraid they’d shatter which could ruin your day.

Many yrs ago they used wood quarls but the crossbows fps were most likely less than 200 fps. These modern arrow slingers most likely would break the shafts

Here you go. I think the jist of this thread, is that domestic wood is not acceptable. And also that we can be scared of what we don't know hahaha.

I think wooden arrows will require a full face shield and someone to hold your beer.
If you want to shoot wooden arrows get yourself a medieval crossbow. Should be fun!

I have some rosewood stems that I use for stick bows. They are incredibly tough and stiff. Just wondering if a Vixen ll would fling them without them blowing up.

In all seriousness, the nock end is probably the most incident prone area, assuming the tip used was a reasonable weight. You could reduce the diameter then wrap it tight with something like string material then epoxy with S L O W set epoxy. Might work but I doubt you could stabilize it for an real accuracy.
If you want heavy, slug your arrow shaft.

I was thinking more of a shtf situation. I think you're right about reinforcing the nock end. Not something I would undertake lightly though.

Re: wood arrows for m380
Years ago when I shot some primitive archery and built a few bows etc. I read about and built some cedar arrows with reinforced self nocks. Several ways to go at it, but I still can’t believe it would be a great idea out of a modern crossbow.Boo wrote: ↑Wed Oct 10, 2018 6:30 pmOne way to find out!hankenhunter wrote: ↑Wed Oct 10, 2018 6:24 pmI have some rosewood stems that I use for stick bows.
