Well bless their little well meaning hearts. They just can not leave anything alone. You bet that they want to regulate it. If we are lucky we could end up like California. Grrrrrrrrr.

i've never been a fan of contests that rape & pillage natural resources so businesses can make more money but i don't see big buck contests falling into that category. i think i will contact my legislator listed on the site and see what's up with this bill. i also don't see regulating contests as a first step towards eliminating hunting as sparky's subject title suggests but it never hurts to be vigilant.

LOL. Did anyone else find it amusing that they made an exception for fishing tournaments? What's the difference? If you're going to take a moral stand, you lose credibility when your selective about it. I'd call my reps and make sure this got shot down (bad pun).

As that is written, it could have impacts well beyond the initial glance which is probably their intention anyway. In Virginia, the state Hunters for the Hungry program holds numerous raffles that could be considered a contest. You get a ticket to the raffle by donating a deer. The more deer you donate, the more tickets you get. In the past, prizes have been as large as a new ATV on a trailer and there are dozens of prizes annually. Its really nothing more than a PR step they take to increase the number of deer that get donated. No one is rushing out to try and take 20 deer just to improve their chances. Passing that law would have the impact of cutting the number of deer that are donated to feed the hungry.

Isn't it quality deer management to hold out for the biggest bucks?
