I preached and preached to my brother in-law about the triangle of pain when he bought my 330 from me.
Last fall he was sighting in his scope using a boat cushion for a rest on his bench.. tore half his thumb nail off and screamed like a little girl.
But he won't do that again. I also had to stop him from putting an arrow through his foot when he first got his barnett crossbow... he was going to uncock it like an excalibur but didn't take the arrow out.

Can you get some pics? The grosser the better.
Not from the OP. These are yours truly. They were posted back in the day when it happened and I was leaving them out of the thread initially but seeing as you asked so nice and all and for educational purposes etc. Feel free to share with whoever you want so others can learn from my moment of complacency.

Pics that Species8472 posted put chills down my spine...
I always worry about that 'triangle of pain' and always double check triple check before handling and pulling the trigger.
As with any weapon safety first regardless handling and shooting think before you use.

Maybe they have long fingers? I can't even get my fingers up over the rail if I am holding the fore end anything like I am supposed to!

Never say that it can't happen more than once to someone. I was in the emergency room a couple of years ago as my son had broken his collar bone playing football.. There was a guy in there who had done this 3 times being that time in emergency was the third... Ouch!!!!!

Is there a rule of" thumb" to follow this safety issue..

Sorry couldn't resist.

If some idiot actually did this 3 times, he needs to give it up!

XB I GO--- not gripping the crossbow is the issue! If your holding it correctly, no fingers or thumbs should be above the rail.

Big hands, long fingers, even gloved hands shouldn't be a problem.

Not paying attention or distracted, for whatever reason, is what gets people a trip to the hospital.

People get way too comfortable, confident in the everyday little repeat habits, like loading bolts or decocking crossbows, climbing treestands. Most have done it hundreds even thousands of times, but all it takes is one time, one second, and guess what.

Not tryn to preach but never to late to slow down and rethink the little things !

Everyone is glad to hear very positive news about the thumb attachment tragedy.

There is no way of telling exactly how things will turn out.

he'll still be making several trips back for different reasons and evaluations.

He's just glad to be going home!
