Opening day success

Post by UPSMAN »

I managed to find the time to take my son to the woods today. It doesn't happen very often but we both managed to kill good birds. My bird had a 9.5 inch beard and my son's had a 10.5 inch beard. I just love it when the hunt goes quick. My bird gobbled on the roost just after good light. He was about 250 yds behind me. I called to him 2 times and waited for a response. He never made another sound. Five minutes later he stepped into the field. He took one look at my decoy and sprinted over to him. Had to wait about 5 minutes for him to clear my decoy before I could blast him. I texted my son and told him to just sit tight and something else might show up. I never even got out of my homemade blind. Here's where the story gets a little weird. About an hour goes by. I called a few times but no response at all. All of a sudden I hear a bird fly down from about 60 yds to my left. He pitches down in the field and just stands around looking at my decoys. About 15 minutes later, I hear flapping wings directly above me in the oak tree that I am sitting under. He moves from limb to limb a couple of times. I can't believe that this bird sat in that tree all morning while I killed a bird 30 yds away and he never made a sound. He finally pitches down to be with his buddy. At this point, both birds are about half way between myself and my son. We were about 150 yds apart. I texted my boy and told him to call to them. He called and the birds turned and started walking to his blind. They walked straight to his decoys. He blasted his bird and we were at the restaurant eating breakfast before 9:00.

Congrats on the 2 birds very nice. I take it that is in Florida. I hear that there is a lot of pressure on the public land this year and not many being taken so well done ! However no pics it didn't happen !!

Sorry but I haven't been able to post pictures ever since photo bucket changed their rules. Guess I need to get someone to teach me how to do it some other way.

Why does a photo make it real? Photos can be photoshopped, altered etc. What happened to a person word?
Maybe to some it’s not a big deal but to me this is insulting and calling the person a liar. I have lots of great successful hunts/events with no photos does that mean it didn’t happen, nope, you just have to take my word.

I’m not trying to put you down nor am I attacking you I just don’t like this on a great forum where everyone respects each others opinions, input and their stories. I was in another forum where things like this started to get out of hand eventually it got shut down I don’t want to see this happen here.

I've been around forums for a long time and the standard poke at a guy is no pic it didn't happen I'm sure you can look here and find a number of them its not serious but take it as you want I stopped posting for a while on these forums because some guys are just way too serious like you lol

Oh ya and just let me reiterate NO PIC IT DIDNT HAPPEN!!!!
