Take care of your string, it's easy

Post by Boo »

A bit of info on string care. The first picture is what happens when you carry your bow on your shoulder. The fraying on this string is pretty bad and it didn't see much wax if at all. The second picture is what happens when you do not keep your eye on serving wear. The latch chewed through the serving and started to dig into the string itself.

At worked I'd call that lack of attention to detail! Lol

I check my strings often to make sure they are ready to rock! :)
A touch of frost has heightened your awareness and your heart steadily beats in anticipation. Your senses are suddenly alert to the movement on the forest floor and you realize that the moment of truth is at hand.

Those are string issues that should only be dealt with on the night before opening day :eusa-whistle:
A little string maintenance goes a long way in keping everything shooting great!

Thanks for posting Boo
Never realized that carry over your shoulder could cause such wear. That said, I rarely carry mine over the shoulder.

Could someone post a video of proper bow/string maintenance? There is always many so different ideas from many individuals. Wax the string don’t wax the servings, lube the rail, don’t lube the rail. Where do I oil the trigger? I would love to see an actual Excalibur video on this subject but I cannot find one.
I’m so new at this, I just want to do the right thing.
Thanks

That's nasty. I would never do that to a boo string or any other

You will find a wealth of information on the boocustomstrings.com website...it's all there in great detail. I recommend giving it a perusal.

I wonder if that guy is related to one of my customers? Check out the sludge! Guess what? That's his oil pump and it stopped working!

I know a lot of people that refuse to due preventive maintenance on anything they own.
My neighbor has 8yr old lawnboy self propelled mower that he tried to start this year and
ended up breaking the starting rope. He then threw it in the trash, I walked over and took it,
went up to home depot and bought a new air filter and starting rope. I then cleaned up the mower,
checked the plug, sprayed out the carb, new oil, new gas, and guess what, it fired up like a new mower.
His loss, my gain. Got me a spare mower now!

I've done that but l just put it in the garage for a few months and dont bring it right out. They forget it was even theirs in a couple months. We dont want to hurt their feelings and be neighborly.!

Looks like Quaker State of decades ago or Pennzoil dinosaur oil and slightly overdue a change, actually changes.

Now, to the subject at hand. 7ish years ago, I got a M380. Polished the latches, reshaped the internals of the riser, ordered a Boo string and shot it obsessively. The “obsessive” part came naturally. I took a picture of the string at slightly over 2,500 shots and hundreds of hours cocked while hunting. Don said it should be reserved. I didn’t think so but sent it back anyway. The string had been treated just as I saw on his website. My subsequent M405s with TT triggers modified as he likes the latches shaped, also got thousands of shots.

Strings and servings can last.
