my first 15-20 years of shooting crossbow all i ever used was red dots mainly because of vision issues. my max distance is 35 yards and i sighted dead on at 25 and was served well. these days i have graduated to leupold vxr, pricey but with the warranty ill never have to purchase another(something that was common with red dots back then) huge difference for those low light shooting times and with the dot its the best of both worlds. imo

I copied and pasted this from a previous post I replied to. Hope you find it helpful.
I shoot a Matrix 380 got it when the first came out. I mounted a Leupold VX-R 1.25x4x20 on it with Warne quick connect rings. I sighted it in at 25 yards and simpley hold dead out to 30 yards. Couple of things I like about the scope. First if the battery goes dead you still have the reticle, Second it automatically shuts off after 5 min of non movement so if you forget to turn it off after hunting it shuts itself down. It automatically comes on when you move the scope unless you shut it off. Comes with a lifetime warranty. Not trying to sell you a scope just giving you my .02 cents.

The LEUPOLD VXR is also my favorite red dot scope.
Either the 1-4 or 2-7 currently sit a top 3 of my crossbows and are there mainly because od the clear glass and quality coatings.
The VXR also weighs less than other scopes in it's soze range.

Nice weight savings on the red dot but I prefer the slight magnification you get with x bow scopes, It varies as to what the "speed Ring " setting is at but their is magnification and I feel traditional scopes are a bit more precise shooting.
Just my preference , red dots have come along way and are a viable option.

For me the Nikon bolt offers a lot in low light over the red dot only. The ACOG crossbow is the ultimate for me.

Another good one is the Leupold Mark AR Mod 1 1.5-4x20 FireDot Illuminated Reticle!

Green dot instead of red and same motion sensing technology!

Lots of folks trying to talk you into using the scopes they like. Not many trying to answer your question though. I have been thinking about trying out a red dot also. Would it help if I told you the two main scopes that I am currently using? :eusa-deadhorse:

Hahaha yep man . Gonna put the dot on can always put scope back on if don’t like . Have the red dot on 12 ga right now & like the way it brings the dot to the target . Not all shots are straight out my blind window like on TV & when in chair seems harder to line up ( don’t bend or see like used to) . If I don’t try I’ll never know

robertb,
so would it be better in your thinking for people to give opinions on scopes they have never used :?:

Oh this is a can of worms ! Good Red Dots cost a nice some of money, jus like scopes. Only you can tell what the view looks like wid yer eyes. I like n use both. Lot of this will be on the yardage you hunt n how fast the arrow speed is in your hunting. I shoot from right in front of me to 60 yds while huntin
