Mounting range finder to xbow

Post by drywallerdave1 »

How practical is this in real hunting situations? I was thinking of mounting my range finder to my picatanny rail on the side of my scope somehow. I can’t use the Excalibur range finder mount as it does not work with a tac zone scope... any ideas....thanks

Personally, I've tried it and I'm not a fan. I find it cumbersome and harder to use effectively. I recommend using your rangefinder old school for practical hunting purposes.

I'm with Paul on this one.
Had my electronics Genius Buddy install a hotshoe into one of my rangefinders for the express purpose of mounting it on my bow.
Had another who is most excellent with fabricating ideas into reality study just how to mount it.
He came up wit a couple of plans, but in the end I nixed both.
More weight, cumbersome and tricky to use even with the hotshoe.

Decided against the idea and have not looked back.
The deer & bears don't seem to mind...

I mounted a LE-032 range finder with a pressure switch on my riser . It has a scan mode on it . I can look thru my scope and still see the range with my other eye. Stump shooting it works . And the pet deer in my back yard have all been "shot" a few times. Have to wait for till Sept. for the real deal . But the other guys are right about a hand held range finder on the bow is hard to use.

Two things I recommend. Range the area if you have a stand, or blind setup before you hunt. You can put glow dots on known ranges etc. before hunting. Get a Redfield Revenge Crossbow scope, use it on a 3D deer to gain confidence in it's abilities, and also know when you make your final speed dial settings where the line up. It makes for an easy time in the field, and does not cost you too much! Feel free to call me if you want a walk through.

If you have a stand that you hunt frequently, you can do what I did and spray paint the range onto a tree trunk.

I have been able to range every deer I have seen without spooking them with the Bresser RF I have mounted on my Matrix350 LE out of a treestand. I bought and mounted an LE-032 on a Scorpyd but ended up returning it as the one I got would not range correctly.

I've been thinking about making a simple rangefinder using the bracket method of chest to back height, and then mounting it to the bow. I do have a rangefinder, but while walking out of an area last year I missed a standing buck I happened upon because I misjudged the yardage, I doubt that if I had got the rangefinder out and ranged it, and then brought the bow up, that it would have still been standing there.
It may not be as accurate as a good rangefinder but better than nothing, should be able to shoulder the bow, bracket the deer for yardage, then move over to the scope with minimal movement, I had one mounted on a compound years ago that worked reasonably well.

I have thought about mounting my rangefinder to my xbow as well. But decided just to wait until an xbow scope is available with one integrated that is accurate and affordable. For now I range the trees around me.

Any way you can post picture of your setup?

Here is a pic of mine mounted on a Scorpyd DS380. I ended up returning it as I said in a post above though.
