popping sound

Post by Franklin »

I had a Matrix 355 for a couples years that making a popping, cracking sound when cocking, maybe the last inch or 2. No problems otherwise, anyone have an idea what's making the sound?

If you are using a C2 crank to cock it then it is the cord slipping off its self that is making the noise and waxing it will probably help. If no crank I have no idea.

Matrix line makes that noise when one of the two riser bolts are loose.

I'm rope cocking, Bolts on riser seem tight. I may loosen them and retighten, should I tighten one up first like some rifle stocks(which one first) or just tighten them up together?

Check the screws that hold the trigger to the mainframe as well as the screws that hold the stock to the mainframe.

I cleaned up a 380 for a friend after last season. When cocking it, the last couple inches, it would pop a bit. When I started investigating, the rear riser bolt appeared tight, but it had developed some corrosion and was only tight against that. I loosened them, cleaned them out and retightened them and the poping sound went away.
Doesn't matter what order.
Sounds to me like something on the bow is loose.
