2019 Opener Eve

Post by Bcxbow »

Tomorrow is opening day for archery here in Georgia and like so many times before I have high expectations and can’t stop checking and double checking my equipment. It was 93°F here today but we have a cold front (Haha) coming thru and will have a low of 69° in the morning with a high of 83° in the afternoon :wtf:. I know it’s too hot but I can’t help it, it’s in my blood and I haven’t missed an opener since 1975 (unless I was out of country). I probably won’t even look thru the scope much less squeeze the trigger unless something extraordinary presents itself or other special circumstances. Still knowing I most likely won’t take a shot I am excited with anticipation just like so many years before and will enjoy to the fullest one more opener in the stand.

Good luck this season everyone

Good luck!

Season opens here óct 01st.

Today I did my annual farmer visit. Permission secured for another season. I gave them a bottle of wine this year an thanked them for allowing me to hunt on their land... ;)

Moved one stand to a promising funnel. :)

It was 73° and very humid with zero wind when I got it my stand this morning and I didn’t have to wait long for my blood to get pumping. Fifteen minutes after sunrise two doe and two fawn meandered onto the plot followed by a third doe And then a 1 1/2yr old cow horn spike. They all hung around between 25-45yds out for about 25 minutes before they eased off. Turkey hens and poults showed up about an hour later and stayed 20 minutes before heading out.

There is not a fall season for turkey in Georgia and even in the spring only gobblers are permitted. I had no interest in harvesting any of the deer that visited this morning but I sure was reminded why we enjoy the thrill. Definitely a successful hunt in my book.

My hunting buddy harvested a nice spike this morning for the freezer. :D
You find out quickly how old fat and out of shape you are by dragging a deer in this heat

I went out this morning in 73 degree heat and was sweating bad by the time I climbed a tree. I only saw two squirrels for my effort. It is way to hot for deer hunting.
