Rail lube or silicone clean

Post by joel0711 »

Is it better to lube the rail with silicone grease or just clean with silicone spray and re-wipe??

....Joel....I know I have not and do not use anything on the rail...I just take a towel to it and clean it if need be....to me if you start doing that I fear the rail becomes a dirt magnet...its just what I do....curious to hear what others will add to this!

I like to spray a clean cloth with silicone and wipe the rail lightly.

I spray silicone and wipe it dry. The residue that impregnates the anodizing is slippery enough to let debris slide off.

x2 on this.
i will also add that any type of oily residue will cause it to be a dirt magnet as anthony mentioned and oily stuff can cause early serving wear as well(i learned this the hard way many many years ago)

Lol. Boo why are you up so late your gonna be grumpy in the morning. Just kidding l love the silicone spray too. The Dupont is a wet type rather than the dry types l like it the best for use on a gasket. It has a small amount of teflon too.good stuff

Funny, nearly twenty years ago when I bought me Exocet, it came with a small plastic container of “Excalibur String & Deck Wax”.

The instructions said to rub the wax on the rail, which I dutifully did. The thing was, this wax seemed rather sticky, not slippery. And when I fired off an arrow, sparks would fly!

It wasn’t too long before I switched to using a silicone-based rail lube, sold by Barnett I think it was.

Does anyone remember the old Excalibur Wax, and what the story was behind that? When did Bill T change from using that to wiping the rail with WD40?

.....I need one of our engineers to respond to this very technical question: :eusa-think:

.....does the advantage of using silicone spray make the deer deader? :wtf: :eusa-think: :eh: If so I guess I must change from not putting silicone on the rail to putting silicone on the rail....as we all know we want the most deadest deer that one can possibly have! :eusa-doh:
