Return to Alberta's Badlands

Post by IronNoggin »

Yep, heading back to Mulie Paradise again this fall. :D
Leaving middle of October, and head back just into November.
Some may recall my love affair with that area, and the GIANT Mulies it holds!
Well, my Island Hunting Partner simply could not stand looking at those massive racks I brought home over the years, and pressed me to find him a bow with the hope he might be able to wander over with me...

Given his historic shoulder injuries, the Crossbow Permit collection was a breeze.
Then, I wandered across a new Bulldog 400 for a price that simply could not be ignored.
A good friend from here arranged the deal, and sent the bow along.
Just a very short time ago we found and mounted a Tact 100 on it to compliment the custom Boo string and Big John LumiZombie Killers.

We've been practicing a bit, and how my Buddy is pulling this off consistently at 50 yards:

We still have some time to play, so I expect he'll actually show some improvement on that before we wander...
Getting damn close to being ready methinks...

So, simply a head's up for now.
There WILL be a forthcoming tale. Here's hoping it is one of GLORY again!

Certainly looking forward...

Cheers,
Nog

Fantastic!

Good luck on the hunt...
A touch of frost has heightened your awareness and your heart steadily beats in anticipation. Your senses are suddenly alert to the movement on the forest floor and you realize that the moment of truth is at hand.

Good luck!

Question being that you're from outside the province do you need to hunt with an outfitter or you can hunt anywhere as long it's within the law and limits?

A friend that is a resident can act as guide after taking a course or you can go with a guide. You cannot hunt without a guide.

As a non-resident, you either have to engage a guide (I am actually a Registered Guide in Alberta, but that is besides the point here) or go with a "Hunter Host" Resident of Alberta.

The Hunter Host doesn't need a course to do so as in some other provinces. They can be any Resident in Good Standing (meaning hunted previous 3 years with zero infractions). The Hunter Host can help up to two non-residents a year. As a non-resident, you can have as many Hunter Hosts as you wish.

The fellow I have always hunted with over there is a Guide Outfitter. I have worked with, and for him in the past. Between the two of us, we have every angle covered. This time around, it will be simply the Hunter Host scenario...

Clear as mud?

Thanks for the well wishes folks! They certainly are Appreciated!

Excuse my ignorance of Canadian Geography, but what are the Alberta Badlands? Are they like the Badlands in the Dakotas?
