Recommend Me A Reliable 100gr Expandable

Post by joel0711 »

Been using Muzzy 4blade with no problems. This year I have permission on some "urban land" and I want to try a good 100gr. expandable to put 'em down ASAP
Don't want deer running and falling in neighbors yard with "little Johnny" going nutso!
All recommendations appreciated

.....NAP Spitfire 100MAXX... been using them since day one... no need to change... fly like field points... I put a dental band around the blade as a “belt and suspenders”...

... absolutely love them!

The SWAT X Mag or the 2019 Vector, both in 100gr. They leave beer can sized holes in deer.
Unlike NAP and a few others, SWAT is 100% US made and manufactured with .036" 440 SS blades.
Low profile and print groups like field points.

I might add, that I carry these exclusively for Canadian customers. PM if interested.
The SWAT Hybid also in stock.

If your shot angles will not be steep, then the 1.75" Spitfire Maxx is good. I prefer the 2" cut on the Spitfire XXX or Rocket Hammerhead even more. I band the spitfires for added insurance and always double band the Hammerheads.

My overall favorite expandable is the Rocket Sidewinder. Its only 1.5" cut, but the longer tip all but guarantees it will not deflect on high angle shots.

If your shots will not be at high angles, its hard to beat a 3-blade 2" cut for putting them down quickly. Good luck!

Good old tried and true regular 1.5 inch spitfires. I’ve tried many different broadheads...fixed and mechanicals over the years and keep coming back to them.
They fly to within a half inch of my field tips no matter which bow I’m using and the blood trails are great. 8)

How far do your deer typically run now? I would not expect an expandable like you are talking about to do anything to blood trail length. Put it through both lungs (with about anything) and it should not go far. 50 to 70 yds maybe. If you are hunting froma tree, make real sure to get 2 lungs and not 1. That's when they run far.

I use 2" swhackers. All but one deer dropped within 30 yards. Last years doe didnt know she was dead. Walked 10 yards looked back wobbled and fell over. Its not the head per say its placement. The one i had to track was a bad shot. Too far back one lung and liver. Rest either two lungs and or heart. They dont go far with both air bags popped.

Another Swacker user here. They have shot exactly with my field tips in 4 different bows and I shoot the actual hunting heads at my 18:1 target all summer long shrink tubed shut. I wouldn't ever hunt with a broadhead that I have not shot at targets, and I mean shooting the actual head that will be on my hunting arrow. My rule of thumb is that there should be no hesitation shooting your hunting arrow and head into a Rhino 18:1 target at twice the distance you would shoot at deer. My max for deer is 40 yards so hitting the little block at 80 yards better be a slam dunk or my max will be reconsidered. They have performed perfectly on 6 animals that were shot at...but they were good shots that would have killed with any broadhead.
