Lots of rut activity here and it's kinda early

Post by longbow joe »

Around here we usually have minor rut activity but it usually ramps up the week before Halloween.
I have seen rut activity every day this week .
I passed on this nice 7 this morning holding out for a big one. My back is mildly better and lm not really up for a drag anyway. But it feels good to be out.
6am walk with this sciatica pain is really fun stepping over logs and stuff. I fell on my a$$ last night ....didn't tell my wife ...I'm a stubborn idiot addicted to hunting.

I'm seeing some rut activity here in Missouri too. There are two scrapes near one of my stands and while I was in that stand Thursday, I saw a small buck pawing at a third scrape. All of this while most of the leaves on the trees are still green and very few visible signs of fall. We have had two good frosts there, so things should start changing pretty quickly. It's late October and the woods is still a jungle.

It is like that here also. Still looks like spring. I am seeing bucks making scrapes also but they always do that early around here. Even the small bucks are not running does yet. Pre rut will be here in a week or so. I had two nice 8 points walk by this morning and let them both go and am now kicking my own butt for not shooting the first one. I knew he was big but did not realize how big until the 2nd one walked by.

It won’t be long Robert, the young bucks started chasing like crazy here three days ago and you and I are probably only about 80-90 miles apart.

Woods blew up here too! Went out this morning until the rain came in around 10:00, lots of sign and small bucks roaming all over the place. Next weekend should be real good here.
