Still Hunting Hogs
My brother-in-law has been nagging at me to take him hog hunting. Since it’s deer archery season we have to use bows. Going to take my Exomax and stake out some hog trails. Have had the nasty things walk right up to me.
I have resisted hunting hogs during deer archery season because of the width and weight of the Exomax. Decided if I stake out the trails I will be sitting most of the time anyway. Now to get across the creek and through the briars to the trails!!
Last time I was in this area saw so many hogs I quit counting at 15. Just too many to keep track of. May even see a nice buck!!
I’ll let you all know how it goes.

Was on one of the places I hunt 10/19/19. The hogs had torn up a patch of ground that must have covered half an acre. They are a pest down here! I try to stick a hole in every one I see!

Re: Still Hunting Hogs
I’m curious. Do you guys eat the hogs. I’ve read they can carry some pretty nasty disease. I plan on hunting some in Florida and was hoping they’d be ok to have a barbecue with.
Re: Still Hunting Hogs
I leave them lay but many around here do eat them. I've eaten it a few times at barbecues and if cooked properly is safe to eat and delicious.
Don't gut it just quarter it out. That's what my buddies do and it is a lot easier.

Re: Still Hunting Hogs
I've eaten hogs from Texas and the pure Russian boars I've hunted for years in Alberta. They're delicious! Make sure to be food safe and make sure your finished temps are over 165°F and you're good to go....as far as I know.

Thanks for the info. I just watched a you tube video where Gordon Ramsey shot and then cooked up a wild boar. That guy can cook for me anytime.

I’m finding the pork I buy in the store pretty bland. You guys think the wild version is better?

It tastes meatier(if that's a word), probably because its leaner. Not everyone can stomach it. Boar taint effects people differently. A friend on mine can stand the smell of it when its cooking and will barf if it reaches his mouth. I can't smell anything but cooked meat but my wife says it smells off to her but it tastes good. I like it!

Re: Still Hunting Hogs
In my opinion the best way to cook it is to use a smoker. That's the only way I have had it and it was delicious.
