Persistence Pays Off

It was a great morning to be in the woods even though it's the back of a big fancy subdivision!! At 8:30 this morning a huge buck jumped over the fence about 40 yards from me. I had my decoys out so he stayed back in the brush checking them out. Stayed around for a couple of minutes then silently disappeared down towards the creek. Got a brief look at his rack and would have to say he is 10 point or better with a big body. Was tickled I saw him but disappointed I didn't get a shot. I had the decoys too close to the thick stuff so he didn't have to expose himself to check them out. Won't do that again.

About an hour later this four point came along at 30 yards. Saw my decoys and made a beeline for them. He stopped about 3 feet from the decoys and gave them a stare down. Was glad I sprayed them down good with descenter. Was not nervous just curious. He finally moved out from behind the bushes and I double lunged him. He ran about 30 yards and piled up.

Landowner was happy. He had been chased out of the garden a few times!!

The Exomax and the Carbon Express Torrid SS broadhead did the job very well. I got both lungs and his heart with a big exit hole. Even found the arrow and it is undamaged. Blood trail was easy to follow. Just wish he hadn't pile up in the briars!!

The coldest morning I have had was 16 deg F. Most mornings are mid 20's or low 30s.

Been hunting since 2nd week of October. The deer have been scarce though I did get a shot at a doe early on and missed.

Just got keep at it. I spend at least 5 hours in my Ground Blind 6 days a week. Wife thinks I'm crazy but it keeps me out of her hair so she doesn't complain.

Now to get that big buck!!

Congrats on the buck! The Exomax with Firebolts and a good mechanical head has always been a great combination.

Good luck outsmarting that big buck. I'm always surprised how close they will get to houses.
