start off with the box call and go to a glass/aluminium or slate if you just wanna try something different. mouth calls are fun butfor a beginner all it will do is turn you blue. lol...more important to scout your areas and put them to bed if you can. like deer calls less is more and they will pop up on you. camo and keep movement down to minimum. too much calling in the off season learns them so i dont do it.in the areas i hunt skeeters are horrible and make for a interesting sun rise.be safe!

I’ll be using my Winchester SX3. I have a PatternMaster extended ranch choke tube. I’ve been using PatternMaster choke tubes goose hunting for years. I’ll look around and see what we have around here for 3 or 3.5 lead shot.

Now you started a whole new conversation!
Different guns like different shells, I found out my 870 super mag likes #5 Winchester long beard XR and a .665 choke. I'm sure you pattern, if you don't make sure you do, but using a .640 and the .665 choke with various other ammo, that combo patterned way better in that gun.
I never used hevi shot, some guys swear by it.

I know you've had a lot of great advice so far, I can't use a mouth call but I started out with slate call and been using one ever since. I think with being able to use a mouth you'll be up on the game, because over the years I think I could killed several more birds if I had a mouth call. I've killed 5 gobblers with my crossbow and a lot more with my 20 ga shotgun and they all met their fate with a slate call. Good luck and I hope you have a lot of fun.

The easiest way to call Turkeys in Texas is to spin the deer feeder!!!! :eusa-doh:  :eusa-doh: :D
