Local turkey season compromised with virus?

Post by vpsaline »

Do you think your local turkey season will be upheld or cancelled with virus going on? I hope they maintain it here in QC but maybe skip a year for in person bird-registration. My gut feeling is 70% maintained 30% cancelled here begins late April. :eusa-popcorn:

I’ve been checking the Quebec hunting and the Federation hunting & fishing website daily for any updates on the future of the hunting season. Got my fingers crossed that they don’t cancel.

Went to Mass fish and wildlife web and it stated The turkey season will take place as well as fishing just be mindful of the social distancing . The only season affected is the youth as the turkey hunting part of the course was canceled . Only the youths that took it last year can hunt .

I'm here in New Brunswick. They announced our first Turkey season in history to be this May but that's not looking real good at this point. No information on the Natural resources web.
Sadly it may be over before it started.
fingers crossed.

this is on the New Brunswick web site>

Because of concerns surrounding COVID-19, the Government of New Brunswick is offering essential services only. Therefore, all offices of the Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development are closed until further notice.

Here in Az, the youth hunts start first.
Main worry is if the forest Service opens the rds. We normal have rd. Closures due to snow etc.

These idiots with huge trucks can do a lot of damage, if the rds aren't dry enough.

Especially the elk shed hunters.

Our Missouri youth turkey season starts this coming Saturday , 4/4, - two weeks before the regular season. I'm not a fan of all of the youth seasons we have - turkey, deer, quail and pheasant. Youths are defined as 6 - 15 year olds, so they get 10 years of first crack at everything. Of course they have to be accompanied by an adult (for a lot of appropriate reasons), but I wonder how many of the adults are actually shooting that 3 1/2 inch turkey load or a 30-06.

I developed a passion for hunting just by accompanying my dad while he hunted rabbits and squirrels years before I was allowed to carry a gun. Dads can teach their kids to hunt without having a special season for them for their first 10 years. In addition, six seems a little young for a kid to be firing a deer rifle or a turkey gun (a 410 is for experts, not kids, and a .243 still has recoil)

I think we need to find other ways to encourage young people to hunt.

First I used to take the youths hunting and we had 1 gun and it was not the super mag 12 we used 20 Ga and for rifles 243 or something like that and they had to shoot it themselves . The youths are our future think of it as an investment . I am looking for a disabled youth to turkey hunt with a crossbow . Some youths Don't have fathers to teach them .

So no one anywhere, has come across an official statement about turkey hunting yet by their DNR vis-a-vis the virus? Besides hunting courses being canceled? so is the case here too for courses in Qc.
