Mrs Hatchet's first kill

Post by Hatchet »

This year my family has turkey hunted harder than ever. With everything being shut down we have had plenty of extra time to spend in the woods. My son got his first turkey opening day. Since then the Mrs. and I have hunted together a lot. All week we have been getting up at 4am and hunting at least 5 hours a day, some days we hunted 8 hrs. Today we sat in the blind for 5 hours then came in for lunch. We went back out and sat for another 2 hours and I called in our local hen. This time she had company. Mrs. Hatchet put the bead on him and squeezed the trigger. And just like that she got her first kill. I am grateful to have been able to spend this time with my family in the great outdoors. Also grateful to be able to share with the great folks on this forum.
Hoping you all are well.

Awesome! Congrats to the young lady. Hard to imagine in these crappy times, something good could come out of it. But, a lot of family time has for many of us.

Mrs. Hatchet wanted me to thank everyone for your kind words. The children and I hiked up a couple streams today to gather fiddleheads. Tonight we had battered fried turkey tenders with fiddleheads and potatoes. Any of you have fiddleheads where you are? They are a type of fern. They are delicious. We are heading back into the turkey woods tommorow. I am looking to bag one with the crossbow. We still have a bunch of turkeys cruising around out here. There is one group of 3 Jakes that could use thinning and a large group of hen's with a nice tom. Also have a couple other places we can hunt if it slows down here. I hope you guys that are getting after the turkeys have good luck this week.
Take care
