charger crank

Post by Cardinalsfanforever »

Got a new charger crank about a month ago. wouldn't return cable part of the time, had to wind by hand.some times it would hang up while pulling cable out, or just herky jerky about it. sent in for repair. starting to do it again after about twenty or so shots. Is this the nature of the beast? Not very happy with it, couldn't imagine being in a hunting situation where I needed it to work correctly, and it started doing this.

Try pulling the cord all the way out, might have a tangle on one of the spools. It is a bit funky once in a while, and that has helped for me!
Good luck, still better than the last model.

Just random I have had mine a year with a ton of use . One issue I had a hook brake I was sent new hooks under warranty which is lifetime in the process of changing the hook . Which you have to unwrap the cord from the spool and untie it slid the old hooks off and replace with the new the spring the is used to retract the cord became unwound so I have to preload the spring Which Excal customer service emailed me how .I think they are worth the money

I just got mine it it works fine except.... it would not retract all the way after cocking the bow. Left the hooks dangling. I had to keep taking the crank off and fiddle with it to make the hooks retract enough to stay on the 2 post. Not really a big deal if you take off the charger everytime.but if you want it to stay on with hooks attached it is. So the fix from Excalibur told me to unscrew one side blue cover and wrap the cord once and if that was not enough take the other side off and wrap the cord once too. I had to do both sides and now it retracts all the way back. Hope this helps someone who may encounter the same problem.

The thought of that happening concerns me. With the Micro 400, the crank is the only option. If that happened while hunting, my hunt would be over. Well, I guess its not that big of an issue. If a hook broke on a cocking rope we'd be in the same situation. I'm not sure how many folks carry a backup cocking option on every hunt. In the days of high power compact crossbows, cocking by hand is no longer an option for many models.

Short of carrying a backup cocking device on every hunt, it is a chance we take every time we go to the woods and I haven't encountered it yet. :eusa-pray:
