finish/ coating on limbs?

I have an exomax that I would like to personalize by changing the color from the original camo to a solid color like a brown or olive green. This would be very easy to do to the stock- but presents a problem on the limbs because they obviously move back and forth. What type of proccess would be needed to get the limbs customized with a different color? also to address the question of why bother doing this...I just wanna lol thats all I love the look of solid color bows

I just hit mine with a can of Krylon. No problem. I used a very light coat just to cover, not caked on.

It's not overly difficult, prep is key. Prep prep prep. Excal paints their limbs black all the time. I have some air-dry Duracoat I've been meaning to try one day.

As Chris said above prep is the key, wipe with acetone then rough up the surface with a scotch brite pad then wipe Thoroughly with acetone soaked rag and let dry until all odor of the acetone is gone before painting. I use SEM color coat and have had great results, it is a flexible bumper coat that you can manage the gloss depending on how close the spray nozzle is from the object you are spraying. By all means follow the manufactures directions.

Years back, forum member Normous, painted some limbs and used an SEM paint made for car plastics that flex. If I remember correctly it worked very well. Might be worth a message.

Use a flex agent in your paint and prep well. SEM paints is a line that has served me well.

I have painted numerous bows limbs, stocks ,risers with Walmart ace hardware krylon / rustoleum going over with a matt clearcoat some bows are 10 years sprayed still in good condition might wear a little around hand area that's it ....no special paint needed.
Just scuff with scotch brite and clean with some type of solvent or degreaser
I like using cardboard stencils cut with an xacto knife

Along with a Scotch pad and acetone, I put on a blush coat of self etching primer.

^^ I'm a fan of self etching primer. The SEM brand performs very well, even bonding to titanium hardware which is difficult to paint.

Few more questions for those who have done it. Any specific brand of primer recommeneded? How many coats of SEM paint did you use? And in regards to controlling the gloss, do you go further or closer with spray nozzle? I'm hoping for more of a mat finish.

I applied 3-4 coats with the SEM Landau Black #15013 and the closer I had the nozzle the higher the gloss. Boo would be the best person to answer the primer question. Good luck with your project.
