Good idea. What is wrapped around the antlers to keep the pot from scorching them?

Yes, and to keep it from shifting on the top of the pot. That also makes it easier to grab it with hot mitts.

What happened to the nose portion of the skull?
Did it boil off?

I've seen one come out without a nose after the rope was cut while skinning the deer and it landed nose first on a f150 tailgate. For the life of me I can't remember who cut the rope... :eusa-whistle:

Little tip if he wants to whiten it safely. Go to Walgreens and pick up he highest percentage peroxide hair whitener, as well as a pack of "purple" whitener. Mix them together and smear on the paste. Leave over night and re apply until it's as white as you want it.

No mess, no smell, no harsh chemicals and the "purple" whitener makes it easy to see where the hell has been missed. And it's less than 10bux

Kid is not sure what happened to the nose. Great tip Chris, I’ll let him know this evening.

Forgot to mention, rinse thoroughly with water and let dry completely between applications. I applied at night, rinsed before work, let dry all day and re apply again after work. Did it three times.

Here's the stuff. I actually used the blue whitener over the purple. I think purple was stronger or something. I don't know... I have no hair. Regardless, it worked really well and reduced the yellow oil spots considerably, if not totally. Must be 40Vol peroxide

He's doing a great job on that mount. Those pieces do typically fall off of them when boiled, as do the teeth. They are glued back in place when done being boiled with wood glue and allowed to dry together for a good fit. I do my euro skulls with bugs in the summer by burying the fleshed skull in a small pit filled with clean sand and covered with a box or wheel barrow to keep rain and dogs off it. The bugs take a couple of weeks usually, and the skull needs whitening also but nothing comes apart this way.

I have heard of this, but never tried it. I just might have to give that a whirl! Thanks for the tips.
