Cocking rope failure

Post by jody5252 »

UGH!! Wed., 11-14-20 While De-Cocking my Micro 315, at Dusk, it happened... I thought the x-bow had exploded! Cocking rope had some how came apart. Rope was only 2 yrs. old, so why would this happen?? I checked the limbs, and string. Seems ok... Next day, another thorough inspection. All is well... Test firing. No issues, Bow is right on... Fri., 11-20-20 Arrived to the ground blind before Daylight. Ahhh I can smell the confidence... At appx., 11:00am, I here a LOUD crack, almost the same as when bow is fired. Not sure WTH happened, I then looked at the string/limbs, the whole bow was crooked. WTH!! As I looked closer, I could see the cracked limb. My day was over!! Contacted CS They are going to send replacement limbs. Only thing is, I am not sure that I should try to draw it again, so I can remove string, and limbs. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Good luck with that I have been waiting 4 weeks and still nothing not even a call back. Ever since this company was sold it’s gone bad. I have always been a supporter for Excalibur in all the other hunting sites but I can’t do it any more. I own a Phoenix, Ibex, and a 380. But I think I will try another company. 10 point seems to have a turn around in less then a week.

Just decock it as you normally would. There is less stored energy now than prior to the limb failing.

4weeks? Really! Why wouldn't you contact them again? Go try Ten Point!

The take away from this thread is always have spare limbs on hand. Also knowing how to change your own limbs will prevent you from having a bad day! :)

Over the summer my son was shooting the 405 and while he was cocking the bow back with the C2 crank one of the hooks broke and when the hook broke it also cut the string on the C2, fortunately he was past the ADF and the string stopped there. I sent an emal with pictures and within a week I received 2 new hooks and a new string for the C2. Excalibur’s service is the best anytime I’ve contacted them I’ve always received excellent customer service. I wouldn’t shoot anything else. As for Ten Point had one given to me and wasn’t impressed with it. I’ve had friends that had limb and/or cam problems with them and when they contacted TP they were asked what they did wrong and had to go through a long process to get their bows fixed and we all live in Ohio where they are made. Needless to say two of them are shooting Excalibur’s now. Bows are going to break I just think we are shooting the best bows with the best customer service should anything ever happen.

Without pics of the bow, it's hard to say what is going on.
However, use your stringing aid to remove the string. Once that is done, you can remove the limbs and be ready for installation on the new ones.
Also if you have a problem with the rope cocker, was it an Excalibur item or after market? I've been using the same rope cocker for YEARS. No issues whatsoever. Either way, I would replace the rope.
It should only take a few minutes to change limbs. If you run into any snags, someone on here will walk you thru it!!
Also...I'd give Dawn a call about the replacement parts. They are usually "Johnny on the spot" with stuff, but it may be slow due to holidays and hunting season.

gotta agree with Carnivorous, extra limbs is the ticket. I have extra limbs, for my micro 315, their called a matrix 380 and an Axiom. But if I only had one crossbow, xtra limbs is probably the ticket. Only reason I have 3 crossbows is son and grandsons use them also. gotta keep them boys occupied.

Did you call them or just send an email and assume it was received? Pick up the phone and call them. :wtf:

Someone on this forum told us to use lawn mower starting cord as a replacement string for the cocker.

The Cocking rope is what broke in the first place... Yes. It was an after mrkt., cocking rope. One that is highly recommended, and used by many other shooters, on here... The rope prob. failed, due to the knot in the handle pulled thru, because it was worn out. Previous rope inspection, did not show any signs of wear... Lesson learned. Always check for rope wear, of the knot in the handle!

Get Amsteel rope, comes in several diameters and lengths, I use around 1/8” with no problems for cocking and stringing aides. Jody5252, pm me your address and I will send you a yard or so. Double knot the ends, and burn the frayed strands to make a bulb on the end.

 Done that. Sent them pics of the damaged limb... Waiting further instructions, on whether to send limb assembly, for repair. Or, that they just send me the limbs...
