VORTEX CROSSFIRE II CROSSBOW SCOPE QUESTION
I recently mounted one of these new Vortex scopes on my Mag 340 and I am conflicted on the reticle they use for it.
I guess I never realized that when I bought it, the center crosshairs were a 40 yard calibration and the hash marks go out to 100 yards (which I will never shoot)
I bought this as a hunting scope because of the green illumination, but my hunting comfort zone is really inside 35 yards, with 40 yards being the absolute maximum I would shoot if conditions were perfect.
My question is: Is anyone using the center crosshairs for 30 yards, or even 20 yards instead of the intended 40? if so, what do you use for 20 and 40 yards?
I think it's crazy that Vortex would have such a long range calibration. Maybe this is a fancy target scope with illumination
Maybe I just bought the wrong scope for me or hopefully I am over thinking things
thoughts ??

I thought the 20 yrds mark above the center 40 , actually give you a clearer shot picture , for the close shots.. And the same for the 60 yrd. Below, for the long shots.
Give it a try. Scope probably be easy enough to sell here. If it doesn't work for you.

When I had the cfii I used the top post for 20. The other aim points were bang on.
Give it a try using the center dot at 20. You have nothing to loose except for a few arrows.. lol

I wanted to use the center for 20 but was dubious that I would use the right marker. I didn't want to give my mind an excuse to screw up!

My Hawke XB30 Compact has zero at 40 also, and I love it. Have a CF2 on the way here also, though I plan to use it with 40 yd zero as intended.
A guy can make the zero reticle to be any he wants. Then just adjust speed dial to have the below ticks to be whatever you want them to be also. No reason a CF2 can't be zero'd at 20, and then have the blow ticks be 30 and 40. Just ignore the numbers they have etched in place.

Lol
When my black bear came in to the bait in May I had to keep telling myself to use the top pin...
When I got home after my hunt it went up for sale and put a mark AR model 1 back on my bow...

.....that scope is way too confusing for my tastes.....hence I just sold it on the trading post....as I am getting older, all of the bells and whistles are just that....bells and whistles....I want to keep it simple!

Re: VORTEX CROSSFIRE II CROSSBOW SCOPE QUESTION
right now I have the center zero'd at 30 yards
Im going to shoot 20 and 40 and see what, if any, hash marks line up
I agree with the one poster who said it's confusing. It really is.
No need for a 100 yard crossbow scope IMO

Re: VORTEX CROSSFIRE II CROSSBOW SCOPE QUESTION
The more lines and dots the better for me. The images I've seen of the reticle look way more basic than the Hawke reticle I am used to. Looking forward to getting my Vortex CF2 from Anthony on Friday. It's great we have so many options to each get exactly what we want in a scope.

....Tyler, remember also you are under 40....those eyes have yet to dim and many of us don't need scopes with spots and lines because our eyes provide them for us1wheelsquad wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 6:47 pmThe more lines and dots the better for me. Re: VORTEX CROSSFIRE II CROSSBOW SCOPE QUESTION
I had the same concerns about the reticle layout but now that I have been shooting with it all summer I have gotten used to it. With the speed adjustment dial I now have the 20, 30 and 40 yards hash marks dead nuts.
That being said I would agree that the reticle is overly complicated and there is certainly no need to go out to 100 yards. I would not be disappointed if they redesigned the reticle to make it more conventional and I also feel they should change the parallax setting from 75yds to 40 yds.
My favorite reticle for a crossbow is the Nikon Bolt XR

Re: VORTEX CROSSFIRE II CROSSBOW SCOPE QUESTION
I seriously doubt that any of the hash marks will line up correctly unless you use 40 yards as the center crosshair. I have a Ravin scope that the center crosshair is 50 yards on. It shoots great when you follow the instructions for sighting in which are not like you do on a scope with a 20 yard sight in center reticle.

Re: VORTEX CROSSFIRE II CROSSBOW SCOPE QUESTION
Shot a lot today from 20-60 yards, using the main crosshairs as a 30 yard calibration (instead of 40) and it worked flawlessly.
Thank goodness
