The Best Advice you've been given?

Re: The Best Advice you've been given?
When I first got into deer hunting, I was like the proverbial fashionista in a clothing store when it came to camo! I was always looking for that “perfect” camo pattern that would endow me with Harry Potters Cloak of Invisibility.
I eventually learned that what Fred Bear said was right:
“The best camouflage pattern is called, "Sit down and be quiet!" Your grandpa hunted deer in a red plaid coat. Think about that for a second.”
Now I just wear flannel shirts and Army Surplus wool.

Number one, respect the turkey's eyesight. From what I've seen, the turkey has no competitor for recognizing movement.
Number two, scout, scout and scout.

Don, I was talking with Jim Hamm( a traditional archery guy) at a hunting show years ago. I told him I had been hunting turkeys with my stick bow( unsuccessfully) . He got big eyed and said” Land Eagles”. Pretty much.

I've heard "old Timers" say "If a Turkey had the sense of smell a Deer does, you couldn't hunt them. They be too smart"!!flightattendant100 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 27, 2022 6:28 amDon, I was talking with Jim Hamm( a traditional archery guy) at a hunting show years ago. Oh man, I just sold one of our fleet trucks and when I was cleaning it out I found three unopened containers of Beaver Castor! The were in a seat back so luckily they did have have a chance to freeze.
That would have been a problem

A coworker of mine comes into the locker room many years ago a bit later than usual. He stinks of something, and i know him as a friend that does not deer hunt. I ask him what the heck he got into, he said his dog attacked a skunk in his yard that morning. The said part is, he didn't know that information before letting her back into the house, where she jumped right back in bed with mommy!

NC... I know what ya mean. Use to be everything had to match and everything had to be from the same clothing line. Luckily I outgrew that train of thought!!
