What a good coyote!

What a good coyote!
Last week we had a coyote visitor about 100 yards away. One of my Mals charged it and it disappeared into some thick stuff. I called my dog back and the coyote reappeared. I'm guessing it was baiting my dogs. So tonight it's getting dark and I'm talking to my wife near the garden and I notice something medium brown that shouldn't be there in my orchard about 60 yards away. I walked towards it with 2 of my Mals and it sat up and moved back a bit. The bugger was watching us the whole time! We all went into the house and I glassed the orchard but couldn't see it. So I grabbed my 204 Ruger, loaded up a magazine and walked over toward the area that we saw it. I forgot the magazine with the shells! *&&^$&(#@! Dagnabit! I scooted back to the house and grabbed the mag, loaded the rifle and started looking. About 100 yards it sat amongst the apple trees watching me. Little did he know it was going to take a nap! It sat looking right at me, watching me swatting mosquitos. I took a hurried shot and clipped a back leg. The second shot drove into its head and now he's cooling off to become turkey buzzard food tomorrow ! The 204 is simply devastating!

Re: What a good coyote!
When we first bought this place, we would see the occasional one at a distance. Now, we see them much more often close up. This is the 3rd time a coyote has gotten this close since January. They are getting bolder and I’m sure there’s more of them.
In my early 20s I never saw a coyote either but there were loads of groundhogs. Now, groundhogs are as rare to see as the coyote were 40 years ago.

Re: What a good coyote!
Best thing I've read all day. People used to hunt coyotes with dogs a lot years ago. Now, I don't know of anybody who does. I have only been asked once for permission to run coyote dogs on my farm, and that was a long time ago. Coyotes were scarcer then. I not only see and hear them regularly at my farm, but I also see and hear them around my home in the suburbs. Frequently, when a siren sounds off nearby, coyotes begin their creepy yelping and barking. Not music to me.

Matrix 380 was the answer for them.
And as you can see by the one on the right, head shots actually work when in tight...
