Nog, that dog on right is a big dog isn’t it! Wow.
They tend to grow them on the large size in Alberta.
Cheers

I shot a good sized one when I was Elk hunting west of Spirit River. While it was late November, I’d say it was maybe 20% larger than the one I just shot. It’s a heck of a lot colder for longer there so Bergman’s rule applies to them as well as the deer. The one I shot in Alberta took a 300 WM dead center of the chest at 30 yards. I wouldn’t have shot it but it came right at me in the open. It’s pretty wild there and they don’t seem to be afraid of man.

Our coyotes down here are generally small and this time of year would be very thin haired.
Chupacabras....you know!
But seriously Matt...that "dog" with the head wound is HUGE!!
“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming "Wow, What a Ride!

aYup. Actually shot wolves that were smaller.
He chose the wrong path to wander, and was 10 feet from my blind when the Big John Zombie Slayer entered his ear.
Face plant.
What gets me is just how small a coyote really is in the canine world.
By and large that holds true.
The one in the picture I posted was big alright.
But I killed a true 200 pound Arctic Wolf when living up that way.
Still have that one's hide...

Matt, do you ever see coy-dogs? I've seen several here in Ontario but never in Alberta where I hunted.

Not to date.
No coyotes here on the Island.
But we do have wolves, and they freely interbreed with dogs.
Seen, and shot a handful of those.
And of course my Lady & I have been living with Wolf Hybrids for ~ 40 years now...

way to go Don ! I hate the things ...we have been thinning them out here but there numbers come right back ....2 winters ago 14 shot on the farm here ... My buddy has dummied 2 here since early may ......1 shot in the back of the head at 250 yards .....He is using a .223 , .243 with 58 grain vmax home loads ... he had been using a savage axis 204 ruger with hand loads ...Deadly accurate I called it his death ray ......quite a number of the ones he has killed here are hybrids ...coy/dogs --- or coy / wolf maybe .....some of them are crazy big .
