I enjoyed the odd buck post ..l must admit l love these racks ..l shot this one about 15 years ago he is a favorite.
Shot him with a tiny finger pinching 52 " bear mini magnum recurve
60pounds ..not an easy bow to shoot accurately...during gun season to boot.

This guy here l shot with a homemade hickory bow l am very proud of.
For some reason my draw was 29 inches but the bow actually shot better not being center shot with these big 36 inch cedars so I shot them obviously a spine issue but they shot great.
At the 25 yard shot It looked like a Speer going in him and went right through the lungs and just gracefully bounced in a thick sticker bush and just sat there. He went about 30 yards with a big snuffer hole. I doubt
that bow was even 150fps lol.
He looked like a sika deer with that rack and very very dark fur almost black.
Sometimes the trophy doesn't have to have 14 points.

I shot this buck 3 years ago on the last day of the season.
I had seen him earlier in the year and thought to myself, "Nope, he's gotta go". Just never could get on him. And then finally on the last day at last light. He messed up!!

Do you know that antlers like that are not caused by genetics but by injuries? People are all the time saying that buck needs to be culled because he has a weird looking rack but there is actually nothing wrong with the genes they are passing on. This one was a much nicer 8 point I shot and wounded in his front right leg when he was 4 years old and finally killed him 3 years later. He was known as the broke leg 7.

Yes Sir I am aware that damage to a deer's anatomy can and will cause antlers to grow "all wonky and stuff". However, with this guy, it wasn't his 1st appearance. My oldest had told me about him the prior year. Had pics if him on a trail camera.
After killing this buck, we aged him with help of my local game warden. He was a little over 3.5 YOA.
He had no signs of any prior physical damage anywhere on his body.
The next year, my grandson killed one JUST like him on the same farm.
That same farm produced a buck (and I have the antlers somewhere) that was a 14 point if I remember correctly. (of those 14 points) 9 were on one side of the rack. It had an inside spread of about 10 inches!!

It took about 8-10 years to finally produce good bucks off that place.

I'll never get more unique than this one. For those that may not have seen it...
Image

My anchor shot on him was intentionally shot through this small tree to slow the bullet and avoid major carnage.
Image
It worked somewhat. The bullet didn't exit the opposite side of the deer, but I didn't account for the shrapnel that would exit the tree. I ended up with multiple entrance holes and numerous bark punctures, but nothing that a taxidermist couldn't easily fix.

Fully caped out.
Image

Finished mount.
Image

Other than the obvious spots, the top of his tail was black. He also had this clear stripe through one back hoof.
Image

As for antlers, the set below came off of the biggest buck, by weight, that I've ever harvested. He may have been the oldest as well. He was probably 250 lbs. He dwarfed the other big bucks he travelled with. I'm guessing he was up in age and his antlers were going the other way. He had lots of mass and easily the biggest bases I've got on a board. He's hanging on a wall among 8pt and larger and the mass alone shows he belongs.

These came off an old shoulder mount I had done back in the early 80's. This guy was kinda special. You can see the "prong" on the right side curls around. And the tips on both sides curl backwards.
He's also 18 inches wide at the widest point. Widest one I ever killed.
The mount got "dropped" moving back to East Texas, and it actually broke the skull cap in half. Cape was pretty worn and damaged, so I pulled the horns and glued the skull cap back together.
Might re-cape these one day. As for now, they just move about the office from time to time.

That's freaky AJ ...looks like it's from the Halloween movie ...Jeepers Creepers!
I had the opportunity to shoot a 80 pound pie bald doe 2 years ago.....the abuse l would have taken living in a house full of women would have been not worth it..
I elected to snap a few pictures and hope it got to breed with a buck .
