OT - Costa Rica Fishing Trip
Evening all,
Passed up on a number of deer this season hoping for a shot at the couple of bucks that were in the area but no shot. My daddy use to say "that's why they call it hunting and not killing".
Season over and my wife and I headed to Costa Rica for some R&R. Decided to do some fishing with some local fisherman - Not what the resort offers but chatted up some locals on the beach and lucked out.
We met our crew (20 and 19 yrs) and headed out - The views in Costa Rica are with out a doubt the best I have ever seen;
The fishing was terrific - We landed some nice fish;
My wife was going fish for fish with me;
Tied into a very large Hammer Jack (that's what the captain said);
Our catch for the day was pretty impressive;
We took some of the fish back to the resort and they prepared them for us and that was some of the best tasting fish I have ever had.
Cheers,
Chester

Reminds me of my Costa Rica trip about 10 years ago. The yellow fin tuna I caught was absolutely amazing after our resort chef cooked it up several different ways...
A touch of frost has heightened your awareness and your heart steadily beats in anticipation. Your senses are suddenly alert to the movement on the forest floor and you realize that the moment of truth is at hand.

I should let Sandman answer, but I think they are Wahoos, a better eating fish than baracudas.

Grouse you are spot on! They are indeed Wahoo's.
I just couldn't place them. I knew they looked familiar but couldn't come up with a name!!
Thanks for ending the mystery!!

Re: OT - Costa Rica Fishing Trip
Our captain said they are Barracudas. Got me wondering so I looked up some Wahoo pictures and the tails and head are different than what we were catching. At the 1st of the fishing trip we caught 7 blackfin tuna (about 4-5 lb) and then used them as bait for the big ones. Was a great trip~!AJ01 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 9:43 amGrouse you are spot on! I'd pull out my chopsticks and Wasabi first and instantly ate the best blackfin tuna parts before using the rest for bait.

Re: OT - Costa Rica Fishing Trip
My apologies to AJ. Someone from Missouri should not try to identify saltwater fish - especially from a photo. I can barely tell a spotted bass from a largemouth or a spawning male white crappie from a black crappie.Sandman wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 9:34 amOur captain said they are Barracudas.
