Things to take bowhunting for deer?
Things to take bowhunting for deer?
Could you guys tell me what you take to your stand when bowhunting? I have a small pack and a few pockets so there is limited space. I am brand new to this sport so any tips would be greatly appreciated. Im looking for "must" haves, "should" haves, and "would be nice" to haves. Any articles on the web that cover this topic that you could point me to would be nice also. Thanks again!
So far in my pack I have a knife, small bone saw, rubber gloves, flashlight. Is trail marking tape considered necessary or not really? Do you take water and snacks along or a camera?

The cell phone is always turned off when I'm hunting, it's used for emergency purposes only. I don't need a phone ringing in my ear when I'm out in the outdoors...

In addition to LoneWolf's gear I take:
A sting to tie off the anus.
All my bow gear (cocking aid, bolts, etc)
Safety belt in case I fall asleep in the tree.
My tag and license.
Grunt call and doe ble just in case I want to use them.
Clothing depending on weather (ie batteries for my socks in -20 or a light rain poncho to go over my clothing if rain is predicted).
Apples make a good snack as you can toss the core's down and they smell nice or apple granola bars.
Coffee in a thermos if it's cold.
Seat cusion depending on your stand seat.
And new for this year, a print out of Woody's Tracking Wounded Deer tips to read right after I make my shot during the waiting period.

I keep it all in a back pack that I hang in my stand.

Just wanted to add that I keep my tracking lights back at the truck or back at camp...

Tye, you cut the skin around the anus, then ream out the cavity, (so to speak), then tie the end of the anus, that's so the dung, poop, feces, doesn't get on the meat, and taint it. Even more important is the the urine sack. If that breaks on ya, your in trouble.TYE wrote:A string to tie off the anus?
Hey Woody, maybe post a thread on gutting or field dressing a deer.
