Hunting in PA

Post by mtbyak »

Where can I find info on what is required to get a non-resident hunting license for PA?

Could only find fees on the PA Game Commission site :(

Also are crossbows allowed?

A photo drivers licence or a photo ID is required to get your licence.
Crossbows are allowed in 2 WMU's. 2b, the pittsburgh area and the Philly area , I dont know the unit number for Philly area but is listed on the website you mentioned. I will check my book of rules tonight and post back. Time to go to work now.

Thanks GE.

I could not find info on the website other than getting a disabled permit.

Please let me know what you find. (Might have to blow the 3 inches of dust off the old compound & find some arrows to go hunting down there if different).

Any other replies greatly appreciated.

Philly area is 5C...in 5C a person can buy as many doe permits as they want....there are a lot of does killed on the road because of all the traffic. I just harvested my first deer with an xcal today.

Hunting in PA

I am a resident of Ontario, and have hunted in PA for the past 29 years.
This year, there are three zones that allow crossbows during their regular archery season, nearly all in the southern part of the state.
They also allow crossbows during their early muzzleloader, the ends today, and during the regular rifle season, starting Nov 28th,for two weeks, and again in the late flintlock in Jan.
If you are disabled, you can apply for an exemption, either temporary or permanent, that would also allow you use an x bow.
All you need to get a non resident license is proof of an hunter exam,or a license from another state or province.
It is a tough state to use a crossbow in,as they believe that their vertical bow hunters are a superior race!
Can you picture a crossbow hunter in the same game as a muzzleloader?
I was down there all this past week, and never even saw a vertical bow hunter in the woods-only guys with their muzzleloaders!
Any other info you need, send me a PM.
Bob.
